You can remember when there were TV and Radio repair shops.
Because you used to get them fixed.
And some of them on the old signs on the front would mention they did 25 cycle conversions.
But we dropped 25 cycle power in the late 30's.

Or you can remember tube testers in hardware stores and drug stores. And taking the tubes in for testing to see of you could replace a bad or weak tube to fix the TV or radio on your own.

I love the smell of mimeograph fumes in the morning.....smells like...victory!

An in the primary schools I attended it was a Gestetner machine, and you had to 'cut a stencil' on the master and then attach it to the drum to start the copying.
I think it was a cheaper version of Mimeoing.

I got the strap in grade 4 for throwing snowballs at a target we drew on a blank brick wall. 3 on each hand by Mr. Clubine, the principal.
Had you been born later you would have been diagnosed and doped up on ADHD meds, for simply being a normal active boy.

In my area of Ont. the change to 60 cycles happened in late 40s or early 50s. My Dad had an electrical business at the time and he was contracted by Ontario Hydro to convert appliances to 60 cycles. I still have a motor that was rewound to convert it and it still works.

Yes !

My dad would collect them in a shoe box to test them. I learned most of my curse words from him trying to correctly orient the little glass bullets so the pins lined up and he could put them back in.

Tube amplifers are still made and quite popular with audiophiles. However, they are expensive.

Tommy Chong was transfixed by a Test Pattern, he though it was a Western. When Cheech showed up, he told him it was really boring.
