Palestinians in Gaza are hostages of Hamas which does not care about ordinary people. They are interested in their suffering, and it is on their suffering that they make money and strengthen their power. The poorer and more destitute the population is, the more it is exposed to propaganda and intimidation, and the easier it is to control. We see a similar situation in other dictatorships, where wealth, power, and security forces are concentrated in a small group that controls a completely disempowered and submissive population. How can this situation be changed? And will the long path of evolution, education, and economic stabilization help? These are extremely difficult questions. But undoubtedly, the main thing is to stop the killing of civilians everywhere.
