Woll looked really good tonight. Samsonov at best is a backup goalie for a serious contender and the starting job is Woll’s to lose.

It could be a be a breakout year for Knies but Robertson also had a great game early last season but pretty much disappeared the rest of the season. Knies does look to have a lot higher ceiling than Robertson though.

I still don't understand why Woll wasn't the No.1 last season. No sense recycling ineffectual retreads when you have a gem in the minors. Dubas drafted a number of goalies, he did something right - maybe the Leafs have more than one?

I didn't watch the entire game but I did see the turning point. Woll made a clutch save on Stamkos with two minutes left in the first. He didn't know where the puck went but the defense cleared...you have to be good to be lucky. At that point he was being punked by Vasilevsky.

N Y L A N D E R ! !
Game Winner. 4 goals in 5 games. Points in every game.
His 9 points is only behind 2 players Hughes and Pettersson who both have 10.

Woll was outstanding.
Knies is way better than Robertson. It's not even close.
He's much bigger. Uses his size to his advantage. Makes smart plays.
He needs to play with skilled players otherwise his skill is wasted.
He can play any which way. Board work compliments a player like Tavares or he can execute on rush chances.
He's listed at 6'3" 217 lbs. For comparison Matthews is 6'3" 215 lbs.

Boston, Colorado, and Vegas are the only 3 teams with no losses.

Way too early to assess this team. I'd give it 10 games at least.
Typically you want to give teams 20 games to get a feel for how they're doing/going to do down the road. Of course there's always exceptions, but if you're out of the playoffs/at the bottom by that point, there's not not much that will change, barring a major shakeup/acquisition.

In the East every team has at least 2 wins except for Washington who has only 1 so you know what that means ...
With Holl gone Leafs don't have a competent shot blocker on the right side for the PK so look for Ovi to get his first of the season on the PP
Speaking of Robertson, only saw a bit of Cowan in the pre-season and even he looked better than Robertson.

The China Woll.

I'm the first to speak up when the Leafs wallow in stupidity, credit to them for not giving up on Woll after his injury riddled 2021 - 22 season.

Tarvaris, Nylander and Morgan Reily all scored. Reily is a defenseman yet he keeps scoring. Auston Matthews scored 0. Why does he think he deserved to be paid the highest in NHL? Look at his scoreless in the last playoff. He
should get a pay cut for scoring no goals. Reily should be paid at least $10 million and get to be ridden to heaven by Tessa Virtue when he gets home.

Not surprisingly Nylander had another great game. When he’s motivated like in his contract year, he is one of the best in the offensive zone.

Washington has been playing like a lottery team and yet the Leafs‘ defence Allowed them numerous great chances. That says something about how vulnerable this defence is.
