And not all gay guys are the swish stereotype.

If the NHL wants to ban theme nights they can but they make themselves look as regressive as the NFL during the anthem crap. I did see in the news that they have banned rainbow stick tape though which to me seems pathetic.
Yeah. They could only use it during warmup which means it would only be on display for 15 minutes when only a fraction of the fans would be there. And it was optional. I thought that Bettman was smarter than that.

Philadelphia Flyers Scott Laughton has announced he will not observe the ban and use the tape. Apparently, there are a number of other players planning to do the same thing. It'll be interesting to see if the NHL disciplines them.

Again, this is why the league is such a hack league. Why on God's green earth would they ban rainbow tape? The first dumb move was to try and force players to wear pride colours, and now they won't let players wanting to support the cause put coloured hockey tape on their own sticks for God sake.

This is the teams decision, not the players. They are paid good money to play the game and should show support for causes that are for the good of society.

They all seem to support the sponsors (Leafs = TD Bank) with their logos on the jersey.

Regardless of one's stance on LGBTQ, this actually shows how phony their concern for the cause was/is.

Sometimes powder keg issues are worth fighting for, that's what Branch Rickey believed in when he signed Jackie Robinson for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Hockey could use a makeover, it's seen as a white elitist sport.
I think you have hockey mixed up with golf.

Causes that are "good" for society can be very subjective and controversial and how you support that cause needs to be careful and well thought out. Good money or not, they are still employees that come from different backgrounds, cultures and religions. If you worked at a bank or any other big company, you wouldn't be forced to wear gay pride paraphernalia as it might conflict with your religious beliefs, they shouldn't be subjected to it in their work place either.

Leave it to the players, if some want to publicly have rainbow tape great, if others, for fear of what might happen to them or their families in their home countries or religious communities don't want to, that's okay too. That goes for everywhere, not just pro athletes.

I once saw an NFL game where the players wore pink shoes. What was the message they were trying to send?
Breast cancer awareness month.

No, you don't leave it to the players/employees. That's how problems happen.

So, it is better to force someone to do something rather than let people do it of their own free will? For the record, I am in favour of all social causes and agree the NHL should have pride nights, however, a player like Ivan Provorov who's family is threatened in Russia also has to be a consideration.

That being said, hat's off to Dermott for doing what he did yesterday.

Just to make everybody happy. We do want to be inclusive, right. How about we dress Auston in a rainbow colour jersey and pink skates. He already has a mustache (sort of) so that covers Movember. Just kidding, maybe.

there are certain issues that are generally okay as almost all humans are united about which are okay for the League to recognize. I.E, Truth and Reconciliation day or fight cancer

Controversial issues do not belong in this arena. No pun intended.

I'm in favour of anything to do with moms. I assume we all have/had moms.
