Thoughts on NHL banning Pride nights?

NHL issues updated theme night guidance, which includes a ban on players using Pride tape on the ice | TSN

The NHL sent a memo to teams last week clarifying what players can and cannot do as part of theme celebrations this season, including a ban on the use of rainbow-colored stick tape for the Pride nights that have become a hot-button issue in hockey.

The NHL has issued a ban on all alterations to on ice uniforms for Pride nights. This also includes other special nights including Hockey fights cancer and military nights.
I think they did the right thing. Ban all or none.

What are your thoughts?

Was more the media coming at them.... I think in the end theme nights on some contentious issues were causing a divide in the dressing rooms. No team wants that.

If they stop doing cancer awareness, that would be wrong. Nothing contentious there. Stuff like LGBT, is a powder keg.

Pride is one of the 7 deadlys, after all. No matter what your sexual orientation, if you get to much pride you are liable to start sending out pictures of your junk on the internet ...

Sometimes powder keg issues are worth fighting for, that's what Branch Rickey believed in when he signed Jackie Robinson for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Hockey could use a makeover, it's seen as a white elitist sport.

This is absolutely the right move. This was never thought out well, and it came back to bite them in the ass. They could have let teams put ribbons on the boards and give away shirts or something, but trying to force players to wear jersey's was the epitome of stupidity. The league is run so half assed.

Philadelphia Flyers Scott Laughton has announced he will not observe the ban and use the tape. Apparently, there are a number of other players planning to do the same thing. It'll be interesting to see if the NHL disciplines them.

I know Brian Burke is disappointed in the NHL's decision.

If the NHL wants to ban theme nights they can but they make themselves look as regressive as the NFL during the anthem crap. I did see in the news that they have banned rainbow stick tape though which to me seems pathetic.
