Biggio sucked through most of season.

With Chappy sucking at the plate since his return from IL, I would have put Espy at third today, but thankfully they didn't as Chappy was the hero today.
Biggio is what he is at this juncture in his career. A utility player with some pop who can draw a walk.

Teams need guys like him. Especially a left handed hitter in the Jays case.

He'd look good in Pinstripes with the short porch in right at Yankee Stadium.

Jays are going to make the playoffs kids. Todays game is an example of how they can grind out close games.

The Texas series was an aberration.

They have 6 games against my Yankees and I'm betting they win at least 4. NY only has 2 quality starters right now and their BP is taxed. They're looking at their youth. Starting 4 rookies a night. Jays should roll right through them.

I must admit, he looked solid yesterday.

Almost as solid as Roger Clemens arching his back in his delivery, and coming straight over the top with a 1991 overhand 98mph on the inside corner. Easily 104 mph by today’s standards……(fuck Philip, shut up ..enough about The Rocket).

Philip
LOL.

Results, Philip. Results. Romano may not get style points, but he does get results.

You know @maurice93 is consistently the most intelligent sports analyst on the board, huh?

His posts are head and shoulders above anyone else's.
To paraphrase an old commercial, "Mo Knows".

Why the fuck didnt they walk Devers????? FFFFFuuuuuck!
Because you don't want to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Verdugo is a better than average hitter with some pop in his bat.

The worst that could happen pitching to Devers is that he can only tie it, which, unfortunately, is what happened. But the Jays still had their last at-bats coming up.

I suspect that majority of managers would have also pitched to Devers.

I like it when he throws his fastball more often.

Andy Pettitte missremembers and that’s all there is to it.

So freaking cool on YouTube. There’s a 1991 opening day game between the Red Sox and the Blue Jays as Roberto Alomar, Joe Carter and Devon White made their Jays debut. And it’s Dave Stieb versus Roger Clemens., I love Clemens and his pitching mechanics from 1990 until about 94. Short arming his throwing arm, a little bit quick to the back of the head, with a slight pause and an arched back. Threw a tightly spun, heavy ball. 97/98 miles an hour (crossing the plate. None of this out of your hand bullshit they track now) , that really crept up on hitters and was heavy. I wish they kept track of those metrics back then.

Opening day, fresh off of 1990 Roger Clemens, 21-6 with a 1.93 ERA, and didn’t win the Cy Young Award.

You're boy is a cheater..But I give it to him. His career was on the rocks and he did HGH probably as more of a rehabilitation thing than anything else. That's the way I see it anyway.

The Oracle ducks for cover...

Jays down the Yankees in the opener.

Gausman against King tomorrow...For the uninitiated Michael King is a middle reliever turned starter due to injuries. He's been probably next to Cole the Yankees best pitcher the last three years, that nobody has ever heard of. He usually doesn't go long though. He actually broke his elbow last year during an appearance. He's back this year and has been fantastic. Yankees bullpen is well rested so I expect a much lower output from the Jays. Bet the under...

I don't think that's Phil's style, at least not in this case.
I'm just kidding...I like Philip and his passion. I appreciate the Jays as well.

I'm looking forward to them making some noise in the playoffs.

Especially if they can take out the Astros....

It's sort of under the radar and I'm not sure if it will make a difference but with the Jay's underperforming offense all year long, these guys might have learned how to eke out wins in the late innings. They scratch and claw and grind it out. That could be a valuable quality to have in the playoffs where small things make a big difference. It's like they are battle hardened.

Any ways, gotta make the playoffs first.

Jays magic number to secure the 2nd wild card spot is 11 with 11 games to go. That may be the same margin for making the playoffs. Seattle has played two less games. Hopefully my math is correct but I ain't making any promises. LOL.

At the beginning of last night's game between the Jays and the (boo hiss) Yankees, Dan Shulman said if the Jays won 8 of their remaining 12 games they would be guaranteed a playoff spot. He explained it had to do with the fact Texas and Seattle play each other 7 times in their remaining games, and there will be a loser between the 2 of them in each of those games.

They play Tampa 6 more times and Tampa is still looking for top spot. They will probably lose 4 of those 6. They simply don't beat good teams. There will be no noise in the playoffs. They can't hit good pitching. In the Boston series they had 16 or so hits in 3 games.

My apologies for giving you this news. Plus an almost guaranteed loss on Thursday to Cole.

Philip and his “Passions” from “Toronto.” Lol.

Back in the 90s our family had the Boston channel coming in from the 90s cable package we had. This channel used to telecast Red Sox games. I would say 1993, 1994, 1995, and the first half of 1996…. Roger Clemens, definitely showed a decline. I remember at one point in like 1994/1995. He wasn’t even throwing 90 miles an hour anymore. He was getting gunned at 88 miles an hour. And this is when they used to register speed across the plate, losing about 4 to 7 mph from the hand. He changed his pitching mechanics, where his arm would really drag behind his body. His throwing arm wouldn’t even go straight up in the position anymore. It would just go down, pause low and weird He was throwing a lot of off-speed stuff….. definitely not even close to the pitcher he was. I always thought it looked like he was nursing a dead/tired arm. However, his second half of the 1996 season was looking good. This is where he struck out 20 batters again against the Tigers.

Then he signs with Toronto for the 1997 season. All of a sudden, his mechanics are back in shape, and he seems to have resurrected his dead arm. I was at his first start as a Bluejay against the Chicago White Sox in SkyDome. He was all of a sudden throwing in the mid-90s, and it did seem peculiar for sure. I followed his career so closely, and I noticed this to be weird immediately. So if he did, in fact, do something it’s fair to say it would’ve started during the 96 season, which was his last season with the Red Sox.

My argument is Brian McNamee his former trainer, claims to have injected Clements for the first time in 1998. That does not coincide with his resurrection. And he had reason to save his own ass from prosecution, so he was going to rat somebody out…. Clemens trained like an animal, he developed a really good split finger and learned how to set it up…. And Roger Clemens has never been convicted of anything. So in all fairness, if it doesn’t fit, we must acquit…. And this is still not good enough to get voted into the Hall of Fame. I think he was such an asshole. He must’ve declined interviews with the wrong people, and he must’ve pissed off the wrong baseball writter association members. I think there’s a lot of members in the Hall of Fame that cheated. I have a note before of Rickey Henderson and Nolan Ryan….. but that’s a whole other thing lol.

I mean at the end of the day, Clemens was never convicted of anything, and he was dominant like no pitcher I’ve ever seen in my lifetime. Was he a cheater? I mean, aren’t we all in someway? Lmao. Roger was never found guilty, so fuck Mitchell and fuck his report.

All this talk of Roger Clemens, is there any love for Bjorn Nittmo?

Checked in with the score 4-0 for Jays, is Vlady injured?
