I could write a book about how many times I’ve mentioned trading Hernandez was a mistake. Never mind the so-called experts that come in with their number crunching stats, talking about how last years team couldn’t hit either etc. etc. fuck that…. Hernández in the lineup brought an intensity that they have not had all year. He was protection. He was intense…. He was a line-up descendant from Encarnacion and Bautista….and now when we turn into a mariners game….. we see the intensity. The “nervous momentum.” The same effort that was put into putting together the Hernandez deal, should’ve been used to extend Hernandez from his final year.. Poor guy can’t even squeeze 15 million this season out of the Mariners in arbitration. The Blue Jays had this guy on a silver platter.

Boy did Russ Atkins screw up, he picked up the moron Anthony Bass even with the contract he signed with the Florida Marlins.
Any team picking him up would be on the hook for $750 K while the Jays ate the rest...does Russ Atkins deserve to be fired?

If depends on what this team does this year, which at this point doesn't look good. If this team doesn't make a deep run in the playoffs, he will and should be fired. Even getting into the playoffs if they can pull that off isn't good enough.
I hate to burst your bubble BBL, the Jays have as much chance of making a deep run as Jimmy Hoffa running for President.

These losers came in 7 years ago with a 5 year plan.

This is the problem with corporate owned teams (Leafs as well) As long as they are making money, they don't fire anybody. If a single rich person owned either Leafs or Jays; Shanahan and Shapiro would have been fired a few years ago.
These old rich businessmen are used to getting things they want and they want championships before they die so time is important.
These corps have board meetings with too many people having a say and nothing gets done.
You may be right but Shapiro needs to be fired as does Shanahan.
They are the captains of the sinking ships.
They actually executed the 5 year plan pretty well. (that fifth year being 2021). AA left them with a bad team moving forward (old + declining + capped by a budget with a meh farm system. The problem is year 6 and year 7 have not been good at all - arguably brutal in 2023 - treadmilling and actually stepping back from 2021.
That 2021 team was guite good - 91 win team with a 99 win projection based on run differential (based on pyth win differential).
They also were rated by many as a top 5/top 7 farm systems in baseball in early 2021 - 8 players were in the various top 100 prospects list early that year - Kirk, Manoah, Austin Martin, O Martinez, Moreno, Groshans, Nate Pearson, Simeon Woods Richardson. They traded 3 of them later on for Berrios, Varsho, Kirk+Manoah were once quite good. Pearson never made it. This isn't an excuse - their development or regression is partly on mgmt. The trading of prospects is fine for good talent (Berrios for example) but the Varsho deal was poorly calculated.
Now their system is nowhere near the level of where it was two years ago due to prospect regression, trades, a few weaker drafts.
Things have not gone well since the end of 2021.
Poor calculation on Chapman instead of Semien (even if it seemed sound at the time)
Manoah implosion, Kirk Regression -- be it development, or not being able to manage healthier habits for their players.
Guerrero regression (Hitting Coach?)
Poor use of assets in the Moreno trade / bad Varsho trade)
Questionable managers and replacements
Atkins not finding role players
Anyway, I think Atkins has to go, and Schneider and the vitting coach.
I think the one point that is a big plus for Shapiro is that he was finally able to convince Rogers to spend money on the team -- if he still has his ear in that regard I am fine with keeping him.
I don't think the argument to get rid of Shapiro + Atkins at end of 2021 made much sense. It is now quite strong at least for Atkins in 2023.

Really good points. Guerrero regression for 24 years old. He’s pretty sad and makes you really wonder who the hell they should be focussing on for long-term. I say this and he hits two bombs the last two days in a row …go figure. He speaks complete English, even though he pretends not to. Hopefully he reads the doubt people are having in him, and that wakes him up.
off-topic, I am really feeling the intensity in mariner games. I love that constant, humming and buzzing in the background as Teoscar hits .313 with runners in scoring position this season.

TBH, it just goes to show that most of these other teams have as many holes as the Jays do. And that includes Houston. Also keep in mind that the AL East is 86 games over .500 so the other teams have had easier schedules.
So by those standards, the Jays are a better team than Houston, Seattle and Texas. Having said that I think that this has been the most frustrating season to be a Jays fan. It seems I pull my hair out every game.
Wait until we play Tampa Bay. 6 games left against them and I can see us going 1-5.
