Toronto should be a province.

Right we send more tax dollars to Trudeau and Queen's Park than we keep for ourselves.

Other than 2-3 weeks of snow you can bike all year pretty easily.
I think taxing the shit out of people in the burbs would be way smarter.
Add in tolls on the QEW and 401
Your first statement is painfully ableist.
Your second statement is not inclusive; the suburbs are a separate municipality populated by people who desire a different lifestyle than yours; punishing them for being different makes you a bigot.
The QEW and 401 are Provincial Highways paid for by the entire province for moving goods all over North America.

55% of downtown Toronto residents don't own cars.
Why should we make the downtown not serve the majority of people who aren't in cars?

Toronto needs the cash, lots of cities have congestion charges.

Bike lane usage needs to operate with a transponder mounted to the bike just like the 407.
Make them pay for the expensive creation of the bike lanes and the usage completely clogging up the free flow of car traffic....and that congestion of cars creates more pollution so obviously slap a massive carbon tax on the bike lane transponders/usage because we all know the science says paying a tax def fixes the climate.
Well if Trudeau can add additional taxes to SUVs and Trucksā€¦ā€¦.

Lmao :)
Most of Canada, and one heck of a lot of Ontario would love that.

Might sound ā€œcrappyā€ but a good part of me, does hope Alberta withdraws from CPP

With respect to ā€œtax dollarsā€
You only do so. Because of population density and where the jobs are. And the jobs are there, because everyone paid, and is paying for the infrastructure that brings it all there.

ā€œif you build it, they will comeā€

Your welcome.
***********************
And for ā€œback-upā€
Obamaā€™s election catch phrase, with respect to taxing ā€œthe richā€.

As long as Ontario is lead by the most corrupt government in Canadian history, I'm with you on this one.
Its not very often I agree with you darts.

I pay $3,800/year. When I left Whitby it was $5,800. House size the same, land a lot more.
Much is going to be based on MPAC.

my utilities are higher. Quite a bit. Likely around $4,000 more per year. A lot of that tax.

Water lower. Iā€™m on a well. But people not all that far from me, on municipal or cisterns are getting utterly raped. Hundreds/month.

back to purely land taxes.
I get waste services once a week.
schools are far away.
Police 15-20 minutes away
Fire 15-20 minutes away
No, none, Nada public transit.
Snow removal, road repairs ā€œlaughā€
Municipal staff/services. Lol are you kidding meā€¦

For all practical purposes. Iā€™m paying for waste removal and snow removal/road repairs this last compared to Whitbyā€¦ā€¦ā€¦..

All things equal, which includes MPAC. What I paid in Whitby, vs what I pay here for what I getā€¦pulease.

lol, people must live on different planets. And no-body pays as little as the 416

If Toronto residents are paying less for municipal services could it be because of "economy of scale (density)"?

You made the choice, so what, you want the people of Toronto to pay because you decided to live further away where its more expensive? Stop whining.
Why do you think your views should even count on what the people who actually live in Toronto want?

Services are cheaper here because we live closer together, if you want a big yard or 10 acres for your dog that's your own choice. But don't blame Toronto.

The 15 minute city is excellent.
Let us in the city make our own choices.

Absolutely it is.
Question might be. While that may have made a lot of sense 50-60 years ago. Does it still make a lot of sense today, given budget realities ( and maybe a couple other things) everywhere we look.

using just police and hydro.
the MTPS budget dwarfs any other municipal police budget. They are also understaffed as isā€¦.

Hydro.
A lot of years ago it made sense that high density, paid low rates, low density paid high rates. Does that still hold true? Not to me it doesnā€™t.

we arenā€™t building Nukes, and adding stupid wind farms for places you canā€™t see from the moon..Ask cottagers how they feel paying for hydro off season, when they are using zeroā€¦

Likewise snow removal, road repair.
Canā€™t drive in the city with out hitting roadworkā€¦.

Giving ultimatums? And what exactly will she do if they say no?
If they don't want to pay for the mess they helped create like overpopulation, half-ass construction funding, skipping the bill on health care, etc, then certain plans will be a no go.

I'd personally transfer all refugees, homeless and drug addicts to neighbouring cities.

Time will tell what the actions will be, but this is the correct first step. Either they help fund or Toronto needs to be reshaped.

DoFo planned on building nukes but gave up, then he declared he'll build gas and coal plants. Then he gave up on those.
Now he's planning on building more renewable generation after having cost the province $230 million cancelling previous contracts.

Toronto police can be cut, this city is safe. Let the people who live here decide.

And if you're still complaining about taxes why don't you just spend $1000 on breakfast with DoFo and buy the time to get him to redo your MPAC property valuation.
DoFo is for hire, you're just not paying him enough.

All politicians in power are for hire. NONE of them work for the taxpayers.

ā€œconstruction fundingā€
Or anything else related to infrastructure.
why should anyone, outside the gta, pay for improvements to the GTA. Thatā€™s a huge part of the problem. Itā€™s why so many, citizens and immigrants head thereā€¦as do employers.

At its simplest. If I said come live in my hood. Would you pick the part that had jobs/services/a nice houseā€¦.Or the area thatā€™s run down and dilapidated

As is, Queens park, in large part due to the squeaky wheel, made the problem too.

.

As for Ottawa and immigration plans.
1) see Boomers
2) see healthcare

No body is accusing JT and the people behind as being particularly smart. Much could be said of Cons too.

Something should be done. Like reducing numbers, although we canā€™t too much. Some extra healthcare sure absolutely.

/points to budgets
/points to debt

So where is the $$ supposed to come from?

Well for starters, stop thinking about renaming streets. The names don't hurt anyone. If they have money for that, they have money to bail themselves out.
Charge more for TTC.
How many people that work in city hall are actually needed?
Increase permits fees for road closures due to condo construction and parades.
Increase hotel tax.
Reinstate property tax on music venues. Covid is over.
Charge more for arena/soccer field times.
The 416 is also a huge magnet for touristā€¦..

Does any other town or city outside the GTA have any money? It's our (the GTAs) money.

If proper capital budgeting isn't going to be done, then certain things have to come off the table.

So where's the money going to come from? It's already here. The real question is wtf are they doing with our money?

lol. Typical response from a citiiot who thinks heā€™s all that. Fine, do it yourself.

You can take your $400,000,000,000 debt with you tooā€¦plus all the immigrants, plus all those living in the streets. Looking for work, and a place to hang their hats..

No idea why people struggle grasping that without pouring so much money into hog town it would still be nothing but a pigsty. And what you really should be doing is thanking the taxpayers that have helped build it, but received little in returnā€¦ā€¦.and you wonder why the rest of Canada refers to the GTA as the center of the universe.
