Because left wingers won't support corruption.
No left wing politician campaigns saying all politicians are corrupt.

Lol, based on things Iā€™ve read. I suspect you wouldnā€™t like my suggestions. Which would be, similar to Don Drummond, ( a left wing economist) that everyone, at every level of government has ignored, as has the electorate. And itā€™s not a coincidence that every level, municipal, provincial, federal, is in debt up to its eyeballsā€¦..

And if we really want to get down to brass tacks annd point fingers. Itā€™s the electorate thatā€™s to blame because ultimately all politicians like to please, and donā€™t like pissing off the people whose votes they need to be in power.

Hold spendingā€¦.andā€¦..raise revenue..
Pretty sure, most of you wouldnā€™t like that.

Iā€™d start with road tolls for one..because they at least are somewhat discretionary. Thereā€™s the TTC, Go,

and if your memory wasnā€™t so bad, you might have read that, other comments too.
It's not that we wouldn't like your suggestions. they just don't solve anything.

First off, Chow is trying to raise revenue. She proposed several ways. So I don't know what the issue is here. Second, regarding Hold spending. Just last month Toronto had a truck load of asylum seekers dumped into the city with no place to put them. How do you hold spending on that?

Can't keep kick the can down the road. Things need to be addressed.

For real life a few examples of left wing governments,

California
Seattle
Portland
San Francisco
and so on
We've seen how shoplifting is condoned in California.

It's starting here now too. Amazing how bystanders are actually defending a thief from getting away.

These are definitely Trudeau voters.

re asylum. I think way back, I said residents of the 416/905 do have legit gripes with JT.
And I think I said, as long as itā€™s not infrastructure relatedā€¦..

I also mentioned, regarding bike lanes. If JT can add additional taxes to trucksā€¦ā€¦ā€¦But on bike lanes, which I think is a valid complaint. A lot of tax payer money, is being spent on that. Odd how, the 416 thinks user fees, pay to playā€¦.just not for all the infrastructure they have/are benefitting huge fromā€¦;)

Another potential problem for the 416, is all those empty office towers, the empty path, etc. will it ever come back to its former glory? Will all that money/economic activity?????

As for Chow.
Donā€™t live or work there anymore ( for reasons) so donā€™t have any idea just how deep the hole is anymore. I imagine very. With problems to fix and no money..

The TTC also should likely hike its fares, imagine their budget sucks too.

416/905
But is also biting them in the ass these days, becauseā€¦how many mega cities are there in Canada. How many world class cities are there in Canada. That for the past 100 years..has benefitted from a ton of infrastructure, corporate tax breaks (lookout if in 5-10 years remote work)ā€¦.while basically everyone else.withered on the vine.

Welfare bums in the Maritimes
Northern Ontario years ago ( itā€™s why they always vote NDP and want to separate)
South western Ontario ( known as the armpit)
Central Ontarioā€¦screwed in a couple ways, souring hydro cost manufacturers bigā€¦

Western Canada where the 416/905 wants to phase out oilā€¦

I canā€™t see tomorrow. None of us can.
itā€™s easy to see thereā€™s a world of trouble coming. (One reason I got out) and, most economists do expect another recession soon too.

Point being I guess.
Either residents start paying large ( land taxes, fees for this that, discretionary taxes) to try to get the debt (including provincial) under control, and some problems fixed. More accurately a few bandaids..

itā€™s just going to get worse. Especially with all that immigration ( in essence replacing boomers) . a lot worse, and even worse when boomers start crushing healthcare

Why do people here keep saying raise GO Transit fees.
GO is run by a Provincial Crown Corp called Metrolinx. City of Toronto has nothing to do with it.

At one time they were tax deductible. And do we not think, the province too doesnā€™t need to find ways to raise moneyā€¦ā€¦other than ā€œincome taxā€. Pretty much what Drummond recommended. And itā€™s not an either or thing. Itā€™s ā€œbothā€ā€¦stop spending and raise revenue. Which I think the significance of, sometimes gets missedā€¦.usually itā€™s ā€œincrease taxesā€ā€¦ā€¦or ā€œcut spendingā€

Chow should get the city to cut all ties and funding to Metrolinx, including Tory's pet project, Smart track.
DoFo has been found to have been dictating their policies, he should pay for them entirely.

You don't live here and keep wanting to tell us how it should be run.
You also said Toronto's property taxes are way lower than outside the city, which means raising taxes isn't that outrageous.

Bikes are here and most modern cities are getting more on the streets as they are cheaper on infrastructure and move way more people per sq ft of space.
Montreal is way ahead, London UK way ahead. Other Canadian cities suck, lots of small Ontario towns suck but Toronto is moving in the right direction.

The major problem for the city is provincial offloading of services, including refugees, health and education, that and the OMB messing up planning with moves like Ontario Place.

And which city produces by far the most revenue for the province?

Unfortunately for the righties, Doug Ford/Conservatives are joined at the hip with Toronto. Without Toronto, the rest of the province would suffer financially.

Nice try at deflecting. (Actually, it was a lame attempt. Where was your outrage when Trudeau was mentioned?)

NYC has a whole bunch of taxes and that is why many people live in Greenwich (the wealthy) or New Jersey. Same could happen to Toronto where people leave and live in the surrounding suburbs especially if more and more people work from home.

Yeah. Because.
1) They arenā€™t relatedā€¦( see Almalgamation)
2) people and politicians wonā€™t scream to be bailed out ( points at Toryā€™s budgets)

Follow politics much?

3) Assuming a rare politician comes a long with the backbone to do at least a little of whatā€™s required. Do you not grasp, that residents of the 416 wil getting nickel and dimed and dollared by both?

The ā€œcitiesā€ booksā€¦.and the province?
Think much?

And when Boomers, start absolutely crushing healthcare. Where are all the main hospitals?
Can you say the 416???????

While that cost will be borne by the province. Staffing them? Places to live? Traffic and commuting?
Think much?

Something else people might want to think about, though this is likely more a concern for the 905.

Seniors (Boomers) arenā€™t leaving the city for cottage country, as they used to. Seniors have realized having shopping centers close by, community services close by, doctors, dentist, public transit ( can you say TTC) etc etcā€¦infrastructure and amenitiesā€¦Or have we all not noticed the explosion in retirement homes/communities the last decade?

And lastly on Boomers. Broadly speaking, they are in the upper income brackets. Higher paying jobs like the tens of thousands of suits on Bay streetā€¦who wonā€™t be spending $$$ there ā€¦when they leave the workforce. Guess what happens to tax revenue, especially the 416sā€¦ā€¦So tell us all, Go and Metrolinx arenā€™t relatedā€¦

But for the 416, 905, province as well with respect to tax revenue. The world and reality does not operate in a tiny little vacuum.

Follow economics much?

This is typical of your posts, ngy.
First you say boomers aren't leaving then in the next sentence you say they are leaving the 416.

Every time you make an argument its like this, random thoughts that you think are clever but clearly contradict each other.
