Did The Jays blow it at the trade deadline this year? I can't help be feel underwhelmed, especially in light of The Jays ongoing hitting issues. Note, Springer is one out away from tying a Blue Jay record for worst hitting streak...

The Jays basically just shopped the St. Louis yard sale over the past 3 weeks and while I know there were slim pickings for a good hitter at the deadline, I was disappointed. I can only think of Teoscar and that's about it. DeJong was good in 2019, but that was so 4 years ago... Also he's likely just to be a Bichette fill in, because we need one right now.

Honestly, I think Seattle was looking to trade Teo (they let it be known they were open to offers), but I don't think they were interested in trading Teo back to The Jays especially since he has somewhat diminished value while having an off season. That would have been admitting they were on the losing side of last years trade.

Though, I think paying a bit of premium (Nate Pearson and a prospect) to Seattle would have helped with their ego. Then The Jays would have a cleanup man who might just have his performance energized with returning "home" for the remainder of the season. Even if his hitting didn't improve there's alway a chance he'd energize his best bud Vladdy Jr. which is never a bad thing.

Oh well, maybe The Jays will try to get him back as a free agent. Not sure what other good hitters are free agents at the end of this season, though I do know many Jays are going to be free agents and not all are going to be coming back next year.

Bo on the 10 Day IL, retroactive I believe, with patellar tendonitis. I wouldn't be surprised if when he comes back, he comes back as the DH. Knee damage is a tough injury and I would think the force on the knee is big at short.

If DeJong is as good at short as I hear, then I'm good with that as we need Bo in the lineup. The Jays most consistent hitter this year.

Reading between the lines of what Atkins said recently, it appears he is not pleased with Vladdy, Springer and Chapman.

Futher to my previous brief post.

I'm not satisfied with Vladdy, but he's doing okay. Just okay. Not build a team around a guy, just okay.

Springer has peaked and valleyed all season and mining the deepest valley currently with an 0 - 33/34 streak (not sure which) though I do know he may tie, and break, the longest Jay streak without a hit tonight. That's one to tie, and two more outs to set the record. He's in the cleanup spot tonight, so I hope he does not tie the streak and breaks out tonight. We need it.

Chapman had 3 strikeouts last night and I think only 2 homeruns in the last 4 or 5 weeks. He's going elsewhere next year as a free agent, so hopefully he can figure out how to maximize his value as a free agent in the last 2 months (and playoffs) for the benefit of the 2023 Jays. If nothing else, he's got a lot of cohones for chewing out Schneider about pitching to Shohei while he's not hitting squat. Which might be an input to Atkins comments. He doesn't look like he's having fun playing right now. He should take a card out of Whit's deck, as Whit is a great fielder, he's hitting and he's a free agent at the end of the year too.

Speaking of having fun playing baseball. The Orioles look like a team which is having fun playing baseball, it shows in the dugout and shows on the field. Perhaps youth, perhaps talent. Maybe some of both.

And nothing is worse than Ross Atkins carefully scripted, optimistic, even keeled responses that are like a double edge sword. Trying to be well balanced, but it’s just to protect himself from backend criticism.

He's been like that since day 1 with with his corporate or political "move your lips and say nothing" talk. I've never liked it and I don't think that he makes a single decision without the prez's approval. He's merely a figurehead to provide a layer of protection between his boss and the media.

I think if The Jays don't get through at least one round of the playoffs (or heaven forbid miss the playoffs) Atkins is gone. His "protector" Shapiro will not have much choice to jettison him to save his own skin.

On Shapiro, he's showing his value to Rogers with reno's and a big ticket price increase coming next year. If The Jays aren't competitive no amount of reno's to Rogers Centre will bring in the crowds in future years. There are only so many games where people come out to see Shohei.

Agree. He got them so far after the rebuild needed after 2015 - 2016. But, The Jays haven't really gotten over the "hump" in the last couple of years and a good part of that is on Atkins.

I remember when the prez took office, Jeff Blair said “Anthopoulos likely quit because Shapiro needs his fingers in every pie.” Lol

Springer just avoided setting a Blue Jay record that no one wanted to own with an RBI base hit. Whoo Hoo!

I really like the Hicks trade.
Now we got a solid 8th inning setup guy for Romano, or vice versa depending on who's in form

He also berated Anthopoulos for trading prospects to win in the present. Remind me, whom did we trade foe Hicks and DeJong?
As well, of all the players that AA traded away to "demolish" our farm system, how many of those guys amounted to anything? Maybe Syndegaard was good for several years but he's done. Travis D'arnaud is a journeyman catcher. I'd say that the runs that the Jays went on justified those 2 good, but non-championship making players.

Sad. Just a reminder in some ways highly paid major league ballplayers have their vulnerabilities just like their fans. Good luck to him.
Classy as always.

The Yanks suspended him a few years ago for slapping his GF.

This news kind of makes sense now.

Sometimes, a team just has to go for it. Opportunities don't come around very often. For example, the Raptors traded a very good player and got Leonard for only one year but that one year is the only championship in the history of the Raptors.
