Geritt Cole is number one on the sucky face list.
Very true. I forgot about him.

Especially when he’s mad at Manoah for calling him a cheater. Lol.

Thanks. Too bad it is not free. I already subscribe to Sportnet and don't like the idea of getting another subscription for a handful of games.
It is free. I literally used it during that Apple TV+ situation. Was so happy that I found it and was able to watch the game on Friday

I wish they'd DFA'd Mitch White and kept Nate Pearson up. I understand White is out of options and the trade deadline is next week, but I don't think White has any trade value at this point and The Jays should be winning games when they are up by 4 runs in the 9th.
To make room for Jordan Hicks The Jays DFA'd Mitch White today. So much for keeping him on the roster for a potential trade...

As stated above, I never thought he had much trade value but with Romano going on the 15 day IL, and The Orioles coming to town tomorrow, I guess The Jays hand was forced. It cost them them a game...

Now will Nate survive as a Jay through the trade deadline? The bullpen is beefed up, but The Jays need a clean-up hitter.

Jeff Blair said today that he thinks Nate needs a change of scenery......

Pure rental.
As was Jordan Hicks. Aside from Hader, he may have been the top reliever available. He's got a 101mph 4 seamer and a good strikeout rate. Control may be an issue. But there was no one on the roster who could fill Romano's role. He'll probably be the setup man once Romano returns.

Is Kirk's recent upturn an aberration, or a trend?
I'm thinking it's more the former but hopefully also a bit of the latter.

My Pure rental comment was a comment regarding Teoscar, not Jordan Hicks. Though Jordan is a cheap rental. Teo may cost more.

Though, as mentioned previously The Jays could feel they have a leg up in re-signing Teo once he becomes a free agent. We traded Teo for Swanson, so perhaps sending a pitcher back to them (Pearson?) will do the deal.

I agree, there was no one on the roster who could fill Romano's role. Not even Phillip couldn't provide a Romano alternative on the roster after successive requests/comments to suggest one.

Now they have Jordan Hicks, Nate's value to The Jays has definitely diminished. I like Nate, but we all know he has not worked out as hoped. The Jays traded Teoscar for Swanson, so maybe trade Pearson for Teoscar. Nearly a year later, both teams come out nearly even... The Jays on top though.

Teoscar would be a good DH clean-up hitter, as there's no room in the outfield for him with Springer in right (one of the reasons they traded Teo was to move George to right). No matter how poorly Springer has been hitting lately (and it's been poor) I can't see them making him a backup outfielder. Varsho has underperformed at the plate, but provides solid defense in left, so no change there and The Jays would finally have a clean-up hitter. Added bonus, Vladdy could become better with Teo back.

What they gave up for Hicks. Both have been promoted to Triple-A Memphis, who begin a series at home to Jacksonville (Marlins) tomorrow.

That's what happens when your closer gets injured in a year that your team has a chance to make the playoffs and be the team that gets hot at the right time. A team doesn't know what the future years will bring and is forced to pay a higher price because they are desperate to not let this year's chance slip away by not doing anything.

Let’s take Shack for instance. Him and I have been friends for over 20 years and we have talked baseball since 2002. He supports Romano all the time…. I disagree, but we’re still friends at the end of the day.
There are ways to disagree with someone, but still be able to do it in a respectful way and not create animosity. TBH, it's not always a simple task.

Here's to you Buddy. The best agency in Toronto.(y)

Anyways, getting back to baseball. I love the Hicks deal. The guy has some fire …..how badly we needed a guy like this on the backend.

101mph 4 seamer and a good strikeout rate.
And Hicks topped out at 104.3 mph this season. If the Jays are in contention for a few years, I would love to see them be able to re-sign him. I really hope Pearson can also prove himself. I remember in 2021 Buck Martinez made a big deal about Nate’s follow-through and staying low…. What happened to that? He elevates the ball more now.

I don't think that they've given up on Nate. A lot of injuries that are not his fault and this year is the best he's looked in quite a while, even at the major league level.

He's only 25 and I think that their preference is still to have him be a starter. For now though, his value is out of the pen.
