Did more people get medical coverage?
Judging from the number of bankruptcies, lack of choice in providers, increases in deductables and co-pays its a wash.

Having insurance but a $1000 deductable, limited choice, and much higher prescription rates creates a situation where while more are enrolled they really aren't saving anything.

Dude. The only public healthcare is Medicare and Medicaid. Most Healthcare in the USA is via private insurance. Obamacare is just a subsidy program for that.

What happens is the medical providers hike rates as they please, the insurance then hike rates, and consumers still pay more as the corporations eat up the subsidies.

The alternative is the origional plan. Slowly expand Medicare by lowering the eligibility age until everyone is covered. Thats all they have to do. Then place all providers on a standardized price scale, just like here.

And end the middleman insurance except for extras.
Medicare is only for the elderly and disabled, while Medicaid was for the poor. Those above the poverty line and low income Americans were the ones that did not have any coverage.
Affordable healthcare offered these low income Americans a form of Insurance and no wonder that Millions of Americans were getting some sort of coverage. Biden even wanted to eliminate the caps of the 400% above the poverty level so as to make it even more Affordable. Of course this was opposed by The Republicans as they know that they are eligible for free taxpayer funded Healthcare for their own selfish means. The Republicans will stymie any effort to expand Medicare by lowering the age, especially as they tried to scrap the Affordable Healthcare and had no plans to replace it. Own up to this fact for once!!

Hmm, an aged reasonably competent politician vs an aged spoiled child upset because someone's trying to apply the law to him.

But I guess harping about an old guy being old is far more sane that claiming Hillary runs an assassination squad.
He was talking about Biden. This is a bad look as Morning Joe leans heavily left.

So why didn't it happen when Obama had a super majority in the Senate and control of the house? And therefore no external opposition to stop him?

Neither is. Neither would deserve my vote.
So who are you going to vote for, Butler? Cornell West? RFK JR?

Those have been your picks so far.

Because that was the compromise bill that BHO could get support on?

You think that any government that could actually get elected in the right-of-centre USA is going to institute Canadian-style, single-payer health coverage?

It's not going to happen. The USA doesn't have those views.

I am a fan of Carter. And Reagan. Both had faults but they were both good men, with strong convictions. Carter has made a far better Ex President imo. And Reagan, while his economics sucked, at least put S&L bankers in jail for malfeasance. And was steadfast in helping to bring down the Berlin Wall.

Since then every President has been a disappointment and corrupt.
Carter got screwed by a bunch of international events that were beyond his control. Iran hostages, if his special forces gambit worked, maybe things would have been different. The oil crisis was something he couldn't avoid, and the stagflation of the time was something nobody experienced before and didn't really know how to improve quickly. In some ways, Bush Sr. had a similar result. He inherited a recession that many economists trace back to Reagan's policies...

Now, as for the S&L collapse...Reagan basically created the environment that led to this happening, with the collapse happening in 1989...when Bush Sr. was president...So, besides boosting military spending in the US to new heights (which, I agree helped to contribute to the Berlin Wall coming down), I'm not sure what he did that was so great...

Um. The S&L is a bit more complicated due to the massive interest rate hike under Carter. The Banks, due to lower interest charters lost business and only had low interest loans for income. So the regulation loosening was more a misguided attempt to mitigate that.

The problem was the bankers methods to get clients was really bad. And there wasn't enough business due to the recession. Going from a couple hundred billion in profit to about 4 billion in losses as an industry in two years.

In the end the Fed was trying to save them from dying. But I don't know if there was a solution. What I meant was Reagan and Bush 1 put the scammers in jail. That doesn't happen today.

So yes, you admit Obamacare was an improvement. Thanks for playing. Time for you to go back to praising the Democratic fringe like Manchin who stopped further improvements.

I said it was a wash. And stand by that. It may have reduced competition in some areas and created monopolies. That's never good for pricing.

Butler is the type of guy who if he sees someone drowning and he sees someone throwing the guy a life raft, Butler will kick the life raft away and lecture the guy drowning on how he deserves a better life raft.

When the life raft is actually an anchor its probably a good idea to say something.
