I think Matthews is going to be asking for upwards of $15M and 3 years, the Leafs will ask for more term.
Definitely a short term deal. Matthews knows the salary cap is going up dramatically in a few years so he can hit the market again and get $17-$18 million. He holds all the cards regarding term, if the Leafs don’t like it he can walk away.

With Boston Pizza man at the helm, Matthews will walk.

Unless they hired Matthews‘s father, I don’t think any GM would make any difference.

Rumour has it that he wants to play for LA, (or any other American team for that matter), if true he’ll either be traded there this year or sign as an UFA next year.

It’s very unlikely that the Leafs will keep him if he doesnt resign well ahead of July 1st.

Here are the teams I think Matthews will sign with Leafs %50, LAK %25, VGN %17, ANA %5, SJS %3.

Keeping the incumbent coach will give the new GM a couple of advantages, firstly it’ll buy him time to familiarize himself with the team, and secondly it’ll either give him a scapegoat if things don’t go well, or if the team does great, it’ll give reasons for some to believe that the new GM is better.

Dubas kept Babcock for a while even though it was no secret that he wanted to bring Keefe up from the Marlies. So I wouldn’t be surprised if Treliving keeps Keefe to start the new season.

So let's pay particular attention to whom Treliving hires to coach the Marlies.

I thought he said we wouldn't see him with another team because of the toll it took on his family. Guess he was just full of shit.
Dubas and Pittsburgh had this planned all along. Dubas wanted to be President of the Leafs or at least have more autonomy.

I think Dubas is just a place holder until Sid retires and they make him president of hockey ops. And even now, I'm sure Dubas is playing second fiddle to Crosby anyway. No major moves without his approval.

BTW, I have always wanted to tell you that your Mila Azul signature is fuckin awesome. I can look at it all day and gives me a boner every time. Well done!
