#1 vs. #8 and 2 vs. 7 etc. is not a rigged system.

It would still have been the same #1-#8 and #2-#7 matchups if they went that way. The 3-6 and 4-5 matchups would have been different - only change would be Rangers and Lightning.

Chaos still ensures because of the Florida first round upset.

Florida vs Boston
Toronto vs Rangers

Carolina vs Islanders
Devils vs Lightning

At the end of the day I prefer the 1-8, 2-7 system, but its still hockey. Upsets happen quite often in a 7 game hockey series, no matter how you set up the bracket.

Those are four fast and highly entertaining teams so people who are hockey fans will watch and be rewarded.
You are correct, there. Unfortunately the league is revenue driven. The NHL, teams and players all make more money when the ratings are higher. The satisfaction of true hockey fans is far from their top priority.

We may have a Stanely Cup final without a superstar. Very different than the NBA.

#1 vs. #8 and 2 vs. 7 etc. is not a rigged system. I don't think that there's any complaints about the NBA system, or even in tennis seedings.

It's based on merit as determined by previous performance and has nothing to do with popularity. The finals is supposed to showcase a sport, not be a nothing burger.
The post that I was responding to made no mention of the bracket system. Not to mention that using a bracket structure has little to do with which teams will advance.

The Oilers get dumped at home. The message is clear, balanced teams win playoff rounds.
Further proof that hockey is much more of a team sport than basketball, where all it takes is one superstar to propel a team. The last place Milwaukee Bucks drafted Lou Alcindor and by his sophomore season they were NBA champs.

Yes, both Matthews and McDavid eliminated. That probably means the impact of a Connor Bedard might only be a partial cure for the Hawks (assuming they draft him).

So the mighty Oilers with their stars McDavid and Draisaitl are out.

Interesting when you look at the numbers.

Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares scored 3 goals and 9 points in 5 games against Florida.

McDavid, Draisaitl, Hyman and Ekholm scored 13 goals and 26 points in 6 games against Vegas. Yet they only won one more game than the Leafs.

I'm not going to speculate on what should be done in the offseason, other than they need some more grit. They really needed someone who could respond to all the crap Florida was getting away with. I will say, Tavares and Giordano are too slow for today's NHL.

Whenever the Leafs get tough they end up in the penalty box on the PK or get suspended. The Leafs cannot get away with things other teams get away with. So Leafs have to stay soft and disciplined, it's frustrating.

Leafs fans are too soft. The arena is why too quiet. Stuff happens in Toronto for which we would have riots in Montreal...

Leaf fans were great during the playoffs, they were loud before the game started, but the Leafs didn't give them much to cheer for, they only won 1 home game. The away game's fans outside Maple Leafs Square were packed and loud.

Sounds like Dubas is not returning but he plans on not going elsewhere, taking time off perhaps to be with family.

I don't know about Hunter, he drafted Marner over Hanifin when the Leafs needed a big defenseman. Marner isn't physically strong enough to withstand playoff hockey.

In other news, the LVGK beat a relatively weak Oilers team, now they face the best goalie in NHL in Jake Oettinger of the Dallas Stars. In the regular season, Linus Ullmark had a better save percentage (0.936 to 0.919), the Bruins also had a stronger defense in front of him.
