The late trade pick-ups have certainly made all the difference. Their combination of toughness, play-offs savvy and skill has made the Leafs a team that can hang in there when the going gets tough.

O'Reilly, McCabe and Acciari have really contributed as expected. The one that has surprised me the most is Schenn. I thought he'd bring toughness for sure, but he still has game in him. He's been really solid out there. Very composed in the midst of pressure, showing a hockey IQ I didn't know he had. He's been defensively dependable and it seems that his presence not only brings toughness, but also leadership. A quietly great pick-up by Kyle.

Last game:

McCabe had a whopping 27:22 TOI. Due to Leafs defending a lead. He was also the most utilized PK defenseman with Holl out.

Acciari had the 3rd highest even strength TOI followed by O'Reilly behind only Marner and Matthews. Again utilized to defend a lead.

Kerfoot had the least even strength TOI of all forwards with Reese and Lafferty out. He also had zero time on the PK. Leafs went exclusively with 5 forwards for PK duty with Kampf being the primary. So contrary to what some might think Kerfoot is not a defensive forward. Wouldn't consider him an offensive forward either. I can't see him being on the team next year as they have other LW options.
Zero time on the PK could also be due to him taking a penalty in last year's game 6 to put Leafs 2 men down while defending a lead.

Ya you're right...acquiring O'Reilly, McCabe and Acciari and signing Knies hardly worked at all...
What have they won? They won one playoff series. Call me when all the moves Dubas has made actually pay off in a meaningful way. Winning in round one isn't some overwhelmingly huge accomplishment. Dubas isn't any lock to be re-signed just because they won one round.

This is a very difficult series to judge how good this Leaf team really is.

There are a lot of positives, the core guys Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Nylander and Rielly all performed great. Samsonov despite allowing a few softies played good enough to win. The new additions particularly O’Reilly and Shenn made big contributions. I particularly like how they scored the majority of their goals, they jammed the net well with tips and goalie screens made it impossible for Vasilevskiy to stop. On the winning goal of all people Rielly was in front screening Vassy.

On the flip side, other than game 2 the Leafs were mostly outplayed throughout the series and if the same kind of luck was on Tampa’s side this series could’ve easily ended in five games for them. A quick whistle in game 3, a missed high stick just before regulation tonight were huge breaks for the Leafs. This Tampa team is nowhere near the team they were before.

The next series will be a lot tougher. I don’t think Florida will be a pushover. If they do beat Boston their confidence will be sky high and I even think they play a meaner style than Tampa. I actually would like to see the Leafs play Boston and finally beat them in the playoffs as they’re a much more hated rivalry.
IMHO, no team can be tougher than Tampa, for the Leafs to beat. The Leafs will play relaxed now, after they crushed their 2nd round playoff demons.

Well, the Leafs by beating Tampa, have done better in the playoffs, then they have in the last 20 years!! IMHO, Dubas and Keefe, will definitely get offered new contracts, regardless of what happens to the Leafs, from here on in.

The only bad move Kyle made, was trading for Matt Murray. Luckily for Kyle, Samsonov has performed, way beyond expectations!!

Leafs fans getting excited about a potential Florida matchup… reminds me of the time they all got worked up because they got to face the lowly canes in 2002 (2003?) in the East finals.
Part of the reason we got worked up back then was Mats Sundin was returning from an injury that kept him out in the previous series. Turns out, it didn't help.

You’re negative when they lose a series, you’re negative win they win a series…what a bummer of a guy you are.

Your opinion of Dubas being re-signed means nothing because you have no input or idea on it.

Boston and Florida into Game 7 Overtime!!! 😱

Interesting stat: Since the first President's Cup has been rewarded in the 1985-86 season, only 8 winners have won the Stanley Cup, and 7 have been turfed in the first round. That's why sports is so great because you just can't predict the outcome.

What if: Leafs beat Tampa in 6, Leafs beat Florida in 7, Leafs win next round in 6, Leafs win finals in 7. Decipher the code and you got 67 and 67. The year the Leafs lost the cup.
Lol that would be a crazy coincidence.

The leafs won 2 out of 3 games against the Panthers this year. I don't think the series will go go to game 7.
