He was done when he got injured. I knew he wouldn't be back. Hope for a safe recovery for him though.
Even before his last injury he had already lost his game from the previous concussions.
Him not being able to carry Holl anymore said it all.

Defense possibilites:

Luke Schenn
You can come back and hear the complaints about what Leafs gave up to get him.
Interesting Schenn leads the league in hits with 258. A whopping 29 more than second place Matt Martin.
Leafs could use a big hitter on defense and in this case the biggest hitter.
He also leads Vancouver in +/- with a +9 on a bad team which is intriguing.
He averages 17:11 time on ice which was 4th on the team and he kills penalties.
Also, 21 points is not too shabby for someone who appears not to get any power play time.
Pretty much same numbers as Gio and perhaps even Sandin so he could easily replace Sandin since he doesn't kill penalties.
Sandin and Holl is a very bad pairing.
Schenn also leads Vancouver in blocked shots which is much more important in playoffs.
He looks to be the ideal fit and he has a cheap contract.

Would be a 4th round pick for Schenn.

You think so? If that's all it takes then why isn't it done already although he is sitting out games so something could be imminent.
Leafs certainly isn't the only team looking at him so I can't see him going for only a 4th. Imagine if he goes to Boston.
When Leafs traded for David Rittich to be purely their goalie insurance they gave up a 3rd round pick although there was salary retention in that deal. Murray currently is an unknown.

I know we crap on the Leafs for giving up 3 goals but Sabres are a very good young team that didn't give up, give them credit, they can still make the playoffs and have favorable pts% with games in hand.

Buffalo is 3rd highest scoring team in the league by goals per game.
Behind only Boston and Edmonton. They can score goals.
Interestingly TB is 4th.

Rasmus Dahlin has 60 points, 2nd highest in the NHL...Tuch is outscoring Eichel and Buffalo also got another young player who is contributing...the Sabres rebuild is going well, about time.

So I watched the 3 goals again that Buffalo scored.
On the first Timmons for whatever reason crosses over from his side leading to a 2 on 1 against.
On the second Tuch blows by Rielly
On the third Holl is badly positioned. Should have been wider out to cover Skinner.

Boston made a trade. They gave up a 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick, a 3rd round pick, a 5th round pick, and a player Craig Smith for 2 big boys in Orlov and Hathaway. Orlov plays over 22 minutes per game and top 4 in Washington. Hathaway is a hitting machine. More hits than Acciari in fact and he's top 10. Both players also kill penalties. Boston has loaded up.
So yes, Boston gave up a 1st round pick plus ...

They are going to be ridiculously tough to beat come playoff time.

Mark Giordano should be in the Bruised Hall Of Hall, he holds the NHL record for most blocked shots.
Another spectacular ot goal from Willy. This game is a great exercise for the Leafs to get a taste of playoff hockey where time and space are very limited. While he won’t get similar 3 on 3 chances in the playoffs, Willy’s much improved consistency and effort game in and game out will likely translate into better performance. Offence wins fans but defence wins champions. It’s a good sign that all Matthews, Marner and Nylander have improved their defensive zone play.

Tampa and Boston are playoff veterans, they would haul Nylander to the ice for a penalty and test the Leafs powerplay unit. They won't let Nylander passage to the net like that, but that's a testament to Nylander's skill.
