Try Salad King if you're into Thai food.
I tried Salad King today and ordered Golden Curry. It came with steamed rice. The curry was just salt and brown water, with Thai flavors, seasoning, and vegetables. Very cardboard and very different from Beautiful Thai Express which I love or any of the Asian places at Eaton Center food court. This is exactly what I meant by Eating out at random new places in Toronto being a major hit and miss.

But you know what? It could be just me right? Maybe it's me who has a problem with stupid food complaints. So I said, let's look at their reviews and see if others have similar complaints.

See ppl complaining about sauces and food being bland with no energy.... Despite decent portion at this particular restaurant.

SO I went to Subways after and ordered a 6". Since you can look at it while they prepare, I was happy and got Fed. Ensured they added some mayo and mustard.

Maybe it's just your taste and maybe it's not. Not sure why it matters because you have nothing to prove. I could just as easily find a slew of positive restaurant reviews and you would likely find the food like cardboard.

If enjoy the food court or airline food then that's totally fine. Maybe you should stick to places where you can see food being prepared because that seems what you need to feel satisfied. Check out a place called Fresh Market Restaurant in Square One mall in Mississauga. They have multiple stations around where they prepare food in front of you. It used to be called Richtree Market restaurant, but had to change it's name a while ago. There was a Richtree in the Eaton Centre on the Queen side, but it closed down recently. Another option is to try just about any Japanese steakhouse where they cook in front of you. That's also called Teppenyaki and there are numerous ones around the GTA.

Most food courts are for budget friendly patrons. You get what you pay for.

Perhaps check out this Chefs Hall food court.

There are many good options!!!

Most sit down restaurants have this section, usually at the front of the menu, called "Appetizers" or "Starters". Just crazy, I know.

He has food court tastes. Could eat it every day in fact. That tells you all you need to know.

Salad King is fast food, but way better than Thai Express, which definitely isn't 'beautiful'.
Salad King was always a student noodle place, cheap and fast.
Thai Express is shopping mall fast food, super high sugar and salt.

So I'm guessing the OP is on the spectrum(which is fine as he is higher functioning) and has some pretty peculiar ideas about food, portion sizes, taste, and health.

So sorry to say but you are just going to have to continue to hit and miss and try things until you can get a good routine down again. Its going to be tough due to staff shortages and untrained kitchen staff for a while yet. Coupled with closures and new places that will open in time.

This city has lots of great food. Good luck.

Won't speculate about the spectrum, but portion size and the visual elements seems to be a big part of it.
Saying that airline food - which clocks in usually around 400-500 calories - is about 800 calories, which he considers the right amount - but complaining that not being able to see a restaurant meal to judge means it can't fill him really does make it seem like there is some visual component being worked in.

Went down to the beach and ordered THREE slices because hungry ... The server goes 3?? Nobody orders 3.... That's good food. Compare that to Cardboard places in Toronto... Need 5 or more. Each slice probably 150... They just can't make pizza in Canada. Even German Turkish pizza places were 3x better
Anyone who eats as much as this has a mental disorder. Hopefully your addiction to food is addressed since being diagnosed with Elon Musk disease.

This guy’s a tool and cheap ass. Don’t even know why this thread got so many responses. What a major dilemma! I eat take out 3 times a day and some places are cheating me out 4 french fries. I count them!

98% of your diet involves eating Feces so that's why things work out. Good for you.

Finally found a place that has their food laid out European or American style. Called Pret a Manger. 3 of these in GTA. Exactly what I was looking for. You can look at what you're getting before buying. No surprises. Get what looks good. F.. Menu BS. In French, it means ready to eat.

No, airplane food is damn good. As in, gets the job of feeding complete. The biggest proof is that after feeding everyone, they dim the lights. Half the people goto sleep, the other half are chilling watching a movie. This is classic sign of being Fed. Noise levels go down and kids stop crying and people stop being fussy. Quiet time. Some people read a book. Sure, Maybe not tasty, or anything special, or too dry for some people's liking, but the energy is there and people are Fed.

What you found is not unique to Pret a Manger. I know that you hate cooking, but try wandering into a grocery store. Most of the larger ones like Loblaws, Metro and Sobeys have a hot food cabinet near the front of the store. They have hot and cold sandwiches, pasta, even whole chicken. Or try St Lawrence market where there are tons of food places in there.

How is it that airplane food can be "damn good", but could also be "not tasty", "anything special" or "too dry?"

Based on your logic, if they don't dim the lights on a flight then the people did not get fed properly? Could it be the reason they dim the lights on a flight has nothing to do with being fed? Could it be that people are tired and want to sleep as a result of arriving at the airport in the wee hours of the morning for a daytime flight?

Thanks man I'll try the places you mentioned. Today I walked far and also found an Italian place with a really damn good sandwich.

Good food means it has energy, not cardboard/bland. It doesn't necessarily need to have taste. Butter for ex has no natural taste. Example being the Salad King recommendation. It has all the Thai flavors, tastes and it's not dry. But it's not good at all. The chef didn't use any oil, coconut milk, butter, cream or anything of that sort in the "curry". It was just brown water. Those are the complaints if you read the reviews. The Thai tastes are there but it's brown water served on steamed rice. It's not food, let alone good food.

Now compare this to Subway or airplane food. It might be boring (and it sure as hell it is, not ppls first choice if they had any) but it at least has energy and does the job for time being. They absolutely do not serve nonsense on an airplane. Imagine flying 90 hangry passengers. Not a safe flight. The plane will crash. Works on short flights. Not long ones.

Not sure if you realized, but you contradicted yourself. "Good food means it has energy, not cardboard/bland. It doesn't necessarily need to have taste." Food without taste is by definition bland. All food has some energy yet can also taste bland. Boiled pasta without salt or sauce has energy as does boiled chicken, but they are also bland. Your brown water Thai food certainly has energy.

So crap or no food equals to an unsafe flight now? I guess that means ultra low cost airlines like Swoop or Ryanair must be more prone to crashes because they charge for food? Reality is that many passengers are willing to forego plane food for a cheaper fare. They'll just buy their own on the ground.
