Can’t say I agree with this one.

Adam Macko looks like a serious prospect, but I don’t like that gap now in the Jays lineup. Looks a little less dangerous.

Interesting. Swanson is a converted starter who had an outstanding 2022 campaign in the bullpen. One of the reasons for Seattle's emergence. God knows we need bullpen help. I don't know anything about the pitching prospect. Hernandez was arb eligible and in line for a raise from his $10.5MM 2022 salary.
I don't think the deal is too bad, Atkins has done much worse.

This is a move to facilitate another move. My guess is they're going to package a catcher and make a big splash.
I hope so because at first blush it doesn't look like they got enough for him. I hope I am wrong but the players acquired for Theo are iffy to address the Jay's key needs: a high leverage hard thrower in the bullpen, a proven high leverage left hander in the pen, a solid #3/4 starter, a solid left handed bat in the OF that is above average defensively, and/or a premium defensive shortstop that hits at least as well as the best of the Jays 3 second basemen.

The Jays may need another block buster trade like the one in which they obtained Carter and Alomar for McGriff and Fernandez, two good players that were well liked. Moving Springer to a corner and Bo to 2nd may be part of the equation if both are going to stick around a while.

Based on the bitter ending of the season, I’m surprised these two teams did business together. Lol.

I wonder if Vlad Jr is pissed off, he and Teo are close. I'm sure he realizes that baseball is a business.

My issue was that Teo was way too inconsistent at the plate and mostly one dimensional, which would be home runs. He had sooo many embarrassing at bats this past year where he had no clue what he was swinging at. He was almost an automatic strukeout. He's got good speed but doesn't get on base enough to utilize it or leg out a lot of singles. He has improved his defense to the point where he is average.

And the money saved, which is $19M, can be used elsewhere where they have greater need. They have enough home run hitters. Vlad, Bo, Springer, Chapman.

There's more good info in Shi Davidi's article.

His OBP was only .317. He was supposedly the fastest guy on the team but had only 6 SB and was caught 3 times. 152 strikeouts vs. 34 walks. With that much power, he should be getting more than 71RBIs.

What were Teoscar's numbers last year? 25HR, .267 BA, 77RBI. Decent fielder, pretty good arm. But to me there's nothing outstanding with him.

Swanson had a good year in the Mariners bullpen - might even push Romano a bit for the closer role. Macko's young, probably will start 2023 in the A+ League with Vancouver; maybe moving up to AA New Hampshire if he shows promise.

I'm OK with the deal. It helps fill a need and Hernandez is no superstar and they should be able to replace what he brought to them.
I dunno, Teo was just about the most consistent bat in the lineup last year, Bo started off very cold before heating up while Vlad started hot then cooled down before getting hot again. Teo for his faults was at least consistent except for a bad May in which he was hurt, all his other months were basically identical and also looking bacd at years passed he was more consistent than others in the lineup. It's an important consideration when the other guys aren't hitting, now the Jays bats are looking kind of weak overall... and to think just a year ago that was their biggest strength. I sure hope there is another move in the works.

My guess is they moved him because they had some preliminary talks with his agent and they didn't like the price points being discussed. With Bo and Vlad needing extentions soon it was probably more then they were bargaining for.

Will be sad though - loved the vibe Teo put out - and no mistaking - that is one killer smile - always put a smile on my face - can't remember any other Jay doing that. This going back to the Garcia-Fernandez days.

just remember last year he played 131 games and 152 strikeouts the year before that 143 game and 148 strikeouts. For his career 651 games and 743 strikeouts. To me just to many strikeouts

They needed to make room for Judge
….imagine that. Blue Jays release Ryu, then at a press conference announce the signing of Judge and number 99 being given to him.

it’s 2022 not 1962. In modern baseball that rate is certainly above average but it’s not out of control either. Especially when this is an era where the value of a ball in play that is an out is lower than ever … especially by a player who is already double play prone.

His OPS was top 15 the last two years….that bat will not be easily replaced. That is far more meaningful than his higher strikeout rate.

That being said he will get paid enough next year, just turned 30, so perhaps a good time to look to move him as you re-allocate resources.
