This is a move to facilitate another move. My guess is they're going to package a catcher and make a big splash.
bingo

Ashby no doubt

opens up some $

the main thing is teoscar is FA after next year so he is a rental

this offence does not need homerun hitters that strikeout but contact players with speed

it’s 2022 not 1962. In modern baseball that rate is certainly above average but it’s not out of control either. Especially when this is an era where the value of a ball in play that is an out is lower than ever … especially by a player who is already double play prone.

His OPS was top 15 the last two years….that bat will not be easily replaced. That is far more meaningful than his higher strikeout rate.

That being said he will get paid enough next year, just turned 30, so perhaps a good time to look to him as you re-allocate resources.
The playoffs has proven time and again that good pitching will beat good hitting.

I liked Teo as he seemed like a positive person in the dugout. I will not miss the silly sunflower seed shower ritual, hopefully that goes to Seattle with him.

Separate note - I feel way more confident in the Jays management team than I do in the Leafs management team.

Combine hitting, untimely strikeouts, defense, baserunning, lack of concentration and baseball instincts and you have an above average player. Nothing more.

Because we see and cheer for him every day, too many Jays fans are overvaluing him. At least that is my opinion.

Is Seattle less of a hitter's park than the Skydome? Is there more or less room to cover for an outfielder?

Very good deal for the Jays!
Adam Macko looks like a serious prospect, but I don’t like that gap now in the Jays lineup. Looks a little less dangerous.

Philip
The Jays were 2nd in the AL and 4th in all of MLB in runs last year. Their lineup still looks dangerous.

I'm not sure the sunflower seed thing was his. They have so many dumb ass things that they do and I hope it all goes away. Baseball has turned into a circus act with all this nonsense. Vlad is the ring leader of it. The yankees don't do that shit anymore. Someone in that dugout or group must have told them what a bunch of idiots they look like. These guys are lucky someone like George Bell isn't on the team, he would slap them silly for this crap.

Here's a little clip on George, and what I would like to see out of some of these guys:

I wonder about the risks of pouring cold water on someone.

"George Allen coach of the Long Beach State football team and a former Hall of Fame NFL head coach, was doused with ice water from a Gatorade bucket as his team celebrated its victory over the University of Nevada on November 17, 1990. Allen became ill shortly afterward and died of ventricular fibrillation six weeks later."

I've always wondered about this too.

There are not a lot of leaders like Bell. From a Blue Jay perspective I think Batista and Donaldson were cut from the same cloth - They both wanted to to win and had no patience if teammates were screwing the pooch.

Per the goofy home run celebrations, there are a lot of teams that have their rituals. Personally I am not a fan of those antics. I prefer a team that high fives and hugs as it is more genuine. I was always a fan of Bobby Orr. When he scored he kept his stick down and did not "hotdog" it to humiliate or infuriate hi opponent. He patted backs and went back to work.
