The Elizabeth Warren story and affirmative action itself is a bit of a mess.

As for her being hired at Harvard, while her claimed Native American heritage may not have been a factor in the decision,
her gender most certainly was as records show that Harvard was in the midst of a push to hire more female professors at that time, particularly one who would be in a tenured position."
