There was going to be a game 5 in Houston regardless of the outcome of game 4.
The 7-game WS format is 2 in Houston, 3 in Philadelphia and 2 in Houston. So if Phillies had won yesterday, they could have closed it out at home in Game 5 today. As it is, there is going to be a Game 6 in Houston on Saturday.

Its a night of Philadelphia versus Houston in major sports. Phillies versus Astros in WS and Eagles vs Texans in TNF.

Bottom of the 5th. Astros leading 2-1. Two out. Bryce Harper doubles. Giving how Justin Verlander blew a 5-0 lead in Game 1, Astros manager Dusty Baker would have been right to pull him out. But JV needed to complete the 5th to earn a win. In an old school management move, Dusty left JV to face Nick Castellanos. 10 pitches later, Castellanos hit a weak fly out. Inning over. JV would go on to earn the first WS win of his career. After the game, JV gave Dusty a series of emotional hugs. Incredible drama.

This type of one on one confrontation is what makes baseball so special, especially at this time of the year. No other sport can replicate such drama.

Astros return home with a 3-2 lead.

Worst call on a pivotal play in WS-cliching game in history of sports... after Alvarez HR the play guy says he "has turned this game upside down!" as the ball drops in the centre field bleachers

wtf is that, lol

I think the Astros won fair and square this time. Congrats.

That HR ball was crushed. 450 feet.

I heard random banging of pots and pans in the background before every pitch from Philadelphia. It was like a sonic version of smoke signals.

I’m just joking.

Maybe we will find out in the fullness of time that the Astros were up to mischief.

That HR ball was literally crushed, like the batter knew what pitch was coming.

Doc pitched for them in 2010, following a trade in the offseaon. He never played on their 2008 WS team. But he did pitch a no-no in his first ever postseason start.

Doc was a legend
I stand corrected not sure how I got that confused.
And agreed Doc was a legend.

What saddens me most is Philadelphia has been to 3 World Series finals since after 1993. With all of our Delgados, Clemens’s, Bautistas, Hallidays, Donaldsons, etc etc and we’ve never been back.

Facts and observations:

1/ Phillies manager Rob Thomson was born in Sarnia
2/ Phillies RF Nick Castellanos has cousins in the GTA
3/ Astros lost super stars Gerrit Cole (to the Yankees), Carlos Correa (to the Twins) and George Springer (to the Blue Jays) and still never missed a beat. Correa opted out of his $35 million 2023 salary. He is looking for those ridiculous 10-year herculean contracts
4/ From the 7th inning onwards with the game on the line, Phillies managed just one base runner yesterday. Dominant Astros pitching
5/ Lesson: These gigantic salaries hardly pay off. Top 3 teams in salaries - Dodgers, Mets, Yankees - never made it to the big dance. Astros have 8th highest payroll and invested heavily in pitching and contact hitters. They will win the AL title again next year
6/ Aaron Judge will not help any team win the WS. The Giants and the Dodgers should avoid him. The Yankees should stick to the offer they made him
7/ The Padres had a potent one-two punch in Juan Soto and Manny Machado. Didnt help them overcome the Phillies
