Ugh, what about Michael Brantley, 2nd gen African-American baseball player… there may be others as well

plus overall there’re still loads of black players, they’re just all from South America now lol
Totally off-topic, but Didi Gregorious was born in the Netherlands, and his family moved to Aruba. And he got signed coming out of Aruba.

That’s very very rare and super cool.

Pretty cool, eh

But there are tons of players signed out of the ABC islands, though (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacaco). I think Andruw Jones was one of the first.

Yeah, if you look into the top players from there it’s got all-stars like Kenley Jansen, Ozzie Albies, Andrelton Simmons, Xaendar Boegarts, and a bunch of others are all from the ABC islands (Netherlands Caribbean). Plenty role players too, like Jurrickson Profar and Johnthan Schoop.

Baseball is big down there!

Justin Verlander cant win the big one. He now has an 0-6 record and 6.07 ERA over 8 career World Series starts. But yesterday was particularly awful. He blew a 5-0 lead after retiring the first 10 batters he faced. Exited 5th inning and Astros lose 6-5. Ouch.

It'll be interesring to see if he's on a short leash in his next start.

Is Verlander worse than Kershaw?

Zach Wheeler was 1-1 with a 1.78 ERA, 25 strikeouts and 3 walks in four postseason starts entering WS Game 2 and he had an extra day rest. Cakewalk? Noo. The Astros bashed him around from the get go as the Phillies lost 2-5. On to the City of Brotherly Love and their raucous fans for Game 3. Must watch.

Go back further, Yankees assistant hitting coach Hensley "Bam Bam" Meulens.

Seeing as yesterday's game got rained out, are they playing a double header today so that they stay on schedule?

Bryce Harper is hitting .384 this post season with 6 home runs. As soon as he came to the plate bottom of the first, one of the announcers predicted he was going to sit on a breaking ball. And that is exactly what he did for a 2 out, 2-run HR to put the Phillies ahead. And then he called Bohm from the on deck circle for some pointers. Bohm promptly put one over the fence for another dinger in his at bat. Its great to see a super star living up to his billing and massive contract. On the contrary, Jose Altuve of the Astros has been flailing. Had an opportunity to punch in some runs early on and didnt deliver.

The Phillies became the first team in WS history to rope 5 dingers in the first 5 innings. And they tied most home runs (5) in a game in WS history. Phillies 7-0 Astros. A Phillies fan held up a sign: "Houston, you have a problem." And that says it all. The Phillies are 6-0 at home this post season. If the Astros dont wake up, the series might not return to Houston.

Go figure as he is lights out during the regular season.

His play-off record is 15 - 11. Take away the WS and it is 15 - 5.

I wonder if it is because by the time WS starts he is completely out of his normal routine (regular starts, habits, etc.)? Sometimes these stud pitchers thrive on routine.
I think a major part of the reason is that he is pitching against elite teams in the WS.

It's like the Maple Leafs in the playoffs. The bottom dwellers have already been eliminated. Imagine playing 7 games against the Boston Bruins, no fun.

I would argue that most of the teams that reach the playoffs are elite as any one team can make it to the show. This would not explain his superior record in the wild card and divisional play-offs. 15 -5 is a damn good record against generally very good, if not elite teams.

I remember that Dave Stewart had a similar record to Verlander, lights out in the first round or two and then mediocre to stinks in the WS. Stewarts stats: WS: 2 - 4, playoffs excluding the WS: 8 - 2

Wins and losses is the worst way to judge a pitcher's performance.

Maybe he is gassed by the time he reaches the WS, though... but then think of all the great WS pitching performances from aces in the past, starters coming out of the pen like Bumgarner, or Jack Morris, Curt Schilling, and Randy Johnson. They must've all been gassed, too. Maybe it could be a mental thing, though.
