Nick Robertson definitely has impressed. He put up pretty good numbers in a shortened AHL season potting 16 goals and 12 assists in 28 games. Don't forget in his last year of junior with the Peterborough Petes he scored 55 goals in only 46 games played. I know Tavares is starting the season on the IR but this is how I'd like to see the lines play out when he returns

Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Robertson-Tavares-Nylander
Kerfoot-Jarnkrok-Engvall
Aston Reese-Kampf-Aube Kubel

I'm also interested to see how some of the prospects fare, notably Nick Abruzzese, Pontus Holmberg and perhaps later in the season Matthew Knies. And I'm hoping and praying that at least one of Murray or Samsonov can have a bounce back season.

I would move Marner to the Tavares line, he needs to get him going. Matthews' production will drop off a bit but it will be a better overall balance.

‘That’s a good thought as far as getting Tavares goes. He had his career year with Marner as his full time winger. It’s very possible that the Leafs may experiment with that move if things don’t go well from the start.

The concern I have with this move is that there was a speculation that Matthews was not keen on having Nylander as his winger. There’s no question that Matthews and Marner love playing together.

It’s a cliché that players should put the team’s best interest above individual’s, but the last thing the Leafs want to do is to piss off Matthews with his contract coming up in two years.

Kirk - I know you're working with what you got, BUT, and I wish I could say otherwise, on paper that doesn't look remotely like a Cup contending roster of forwards. When I see this, it's clear this season could hinge on goal tending as the real make it/break it difference maker. Forwards and D just don't have it at this point.

I agree about Matthews wanting Marner over Nylander, but at this point improving your chances at winning the cup totally trumps the concern of pissing off your best player.
If Matthews sees the merit in changing up to win, I believe he would be on board. If he sees the merit and still demands Marner, you gotta get rid of a guy like that.

This team can definitely go to the Stanley cup final if they buy tickets.

LMAO, sooner or latter the Loafs wretched luck has to turn.

I'm going to go out on a limb and predict who the starting goaltender will be at the end of the season: Keith Petruzzelli. Last season Joseph Woll got injured for the Marlies, Petruzzelli came up from the ECHL and sparked, posting a 1.96 GAA. I have no faith in either Murray or Samsonov, time for young blood to rise. Petruzzelli's contract with the Marlies extends only to this season, with Loafs stupidity, they'll probably let him walk.

...and this will be the outcome of the Loafs season.

Reliable sources tell me that cute little Maria Lopez anthem signer is gone.
Wonder who they’ll get?

There's no doubt that our forward depth has dropped from prior years, losing the likes of Zach Hyman, Kasperi Kapanen and Ilya Mikheyev in recent years and not really replacing them with much. However at the same time our D corps have improved. Is it a Stanley Cup winning roster, I don't believe so. But its still a top team in the NHL that should at least win ONE playoff series!

Not sure where you're getting your stats from IV but Petruzelli played only 5 games in a Marlies uniform last season and posted a 3.12 GAA and .902 PCT. There's no way that you can argue he's at either Murray's or Samsonov's level of ability.

The stats right here. Wonder if he can stop a puck high to the glove side?

It was less than 20 seconds left in the 3rd period. Time to play wind down hockey bank the point and play for the extra in overtime.
Just dumb plays first by Holl then by Muzzin. In this league if they offer you a 3 point game over a 2 point game you should take it.

Kallgren was run over in Rochester tonight and left the game, no word on a possible concussion or other injury.
He and Woll are the only NHL contracted goalies they have in the minors, and they're at the 50 contract limit, so a trade will have to be made in order to have someone available for call-up if he's out an extended period.
