The score was 0 - 0 when the ump blew a third strike call in the second inning, you could see the look of WTF on Gausman's face. It was all downhill after that.

Yup. The strike/ball calling has been terrible this year and enhanced spectator graphics provide confirmation and a constant reminder. One missed call early can completely change the outcome of the game. Many umps have terrible efficiency ratings. Bring on automatic strike calling technology!

In addition to new rules designed to shorten and speed up games, this would also help attract younger viewers. That level of human error just doesn't cut it with those who grew up with technology.

Good comments funstick. Two responses regarding this:
1) I find it interesting that from time to time Buck Martinez will remind the viewers that the strike box shown on the screen is just an estimation of the strike zone. In other words, the strike zone is what the umpire says it is.
2) You can bring in all the automation you want, players and managers will still constantly complain they were ripped off. Competitive people can often be he most immature.

1) Just like the size of a hockey net the strike zone should be consistent, based on the vertical size of the batter. The plate will always determine the lateral extensions of the strike zone and will not change.

2)I think that this will almost completely eliminate complaints regarding balls and strikes. If you look at tennis, with automated line calling, that is exactly what has happened.

LOL +1 and he gave up the most earned runs of all Jays pitchers that played yesterday
Timing is everything.

Maybe this will give him more confidence to attack the strike zone with his fastball that has movement on it instead of throwing off-speed that either misses the plate by a ton or he grooves it down the middle and then gets hit hard.

Yep, pretty sure it's more mental than mechanical with Kikuchi.

I guess we have to live with the way that pitching wins are scored but with shorter outings from pitchers, we see more and more wins going to a pitcher who was far from the most responsible for the win. It's gotta sting for starters that pitch well for several innings only to get a no decision, and a reliever that pitches to 1 or 2 batters gets the win.

The difference is the hockey net and the tennis lines are tangible things that can be clearly seen and touched without the need for digital creation. Also, they do not vary based on a player's size the way a strike zone does.

It was a fun cheat day at the ballpark.

It's the first time I've eaten a hotdog (Coney Island) and the second time I've had a beer (Goose Bay IPA) along with the nachos and popcorn I inhaled. I didn't like that Ryan Mountcastle had to leave the game due due to a HBP, if were going to whoop the tar out of the Orioles going against their full lineup. When Rougned Smelly struck out I started singing the chorus to a popular song. From a band that first found success in Toronto. I was surprised that those around me caught on and started singing.

The Blue Jays at 83-63 currently have the 7th best record in MLB. And they have the 11th highest team payroll.

Jays are now 7 games in front of the O's for the WC and 4.5 games behind the Yanks for the Division title with 16 games to play. (O's have 18 gtp and Yanks have 15 gtp. We have more off days to sort out our rotation and rest our pen than the other teams.)

Jays have 3 against the Bombers later this month. Is everybody else thinking that might be the most interesting series of the season?

Bichette certainly has improved. He is bearing down and the offence has been great. Happy to eat my words.
I've never seen Derek Jeter make a play like Bo Bo Brazil made in the 5th Inning. Would you like some ketchup or sweet chilli sauce with your words.

A little barbecue sauce maybe. But, Bichette was making a lot of errors earlier and players are generally appraised over time. So maybe he will be a Jeter over time, or maybe an Ozzie Smith, or maybe a Doug Kelly

Thumbs up for Berrios for taking out Mountcastle!, He's not in today's lineup!
I don't agree, it wasn't intentional, but it's still a very Bobby Clarke thing to do. I watched the replay when I got home, Barrios hit him on the unprotected part of the lower tricep. Fortunately for us, Vlady and more recently George wear the high cut elbow pad.

Defensively Jeter is far from Ozzie Smith's league. Bryan Baker talks about his snit with Teoscar.

Bo is arguably the most athletic Blue Jay and he has a very high ceiling. Right now he is very hot at the plate and has made some spectacular plays in the field. Because he has a lot of movement in his swing and doesn't take a lot of pitches, he is susceptible to less prolific stretches or slumps at the plate. I hope he finds a way to maintain his groove but that rarely happens with his approach at the plate. In the field he has a lot of range but he is still learning on how and when to throw to first on difficult plays when moving to his right.
