Should a wife take your last name when you get hitched? And why?

and why do you need to know? it is a commitment women offer for free...nobody is pointing a gun to a woman who wants to do it. a husband's last name doesn't mean ownership...it's more of a symbol...it shows a lady has a commitment to a relationship. it shows solidarity...if you don't want to do it...don't.
I get it, it's pretty convenient to not go through all the "annoying paperwork" over a relationship...LoL...stay single...it's fun too.
A wife? Your last name? It needs to be totally up to her since none of us live in Saudi Arabia. I personally think hyphenated last names are a bit much, though...
In the end, it's only a name. But it's odd when a family doesn't share the same last name.
That is where the tradition came from. To pass down the male line and own the woman. Why do you think the bride is given away by her father? Another stupid tradition.
Not all traditions are good you know.
With families being made up in so many different ways now, i would guess that thousands of families have different last names.
She did all the work, but the moment a man wants to walk away, she tells the law to take half his salary.

Ok, I can kinda go with that, but we lost…. Then. Why can’t we change it now? You see how many men here would be upset if the wife or kids, especially kids, didn’t have their last name, yet all they did to create and bring forth the child was shoot some sperm. LOL
You are proving the point. Men don’t even have to stick around so why not have the women have the name or men should have to pay the wife to labouring his child with his name since she is in a sense, working for him.
Why should a woman work for free? And I know neither of us, or I hope, neither of us are being serious because I don’t think you believe it is right that man walk away from his responsiblity, which includes paying for his part in the child’s finically upbringing.
Women should NOT change their names when they marry. 50% of marriages end in divorce and usually the mom has primary custody of the kids. A significant number of offspring may not be the product of the husband. We all know for sure who the mom is. Women should keep their names, with the children keeping the mom's name. The husband can take her last name or keep his own. It makes far more sense.
My son is unlikely to have children. My daughter has 1 with probably 1 more to come. She and child have her husbands name so my name will not carry on.

I know everybody now wants to be heard and SM gives them that ability but it doesn't mean you will be listened to ir agreed with. Like my mom told me when I was a child; Life Isn't Fair. The sooner you comprehend that, the better off you will be.

Of course your wallet does. Why do you think you have the right to father a child but not pay your share of that child’s needs? Why do you think you are not responsible to feed, clothes, shelter the child you fathered?
BTW - fathers shouldn’t be leaving period. You should be in your child’s life to do other parenting things like teach and nurture and raise your child.
Again, what does being a strong woman have to do with your part of your responsibility? So a strong woman means you can get away with not being a father? How does that work? Men only have to be involved if the woman is weak? LOL. Nice try.
