Should a wife take your last name when you get hitched? And why?

This is what I am trying to figure out and have asked if it is emotional security for the man but no man wants to answer that. I think the words emotional and security both make a man nervous to admit so put them both together and I guess I see why no man will answer that question.
IMO, emotional security doesn't come from a name change. Either you're secure in the other person or you're not.

So if you don't keep all the hyphenated names, some names will get lost, ending their family tree. Hyphenated names are a silly idea.
What do you think happens to women when they change their name. Lots of family lines end when the father doesn’t have sons.

Why do I have to lose my family name for you? Not you and I directly but you get what I mean

When I was younger, I would have wanted wife to take my name. Now I wouldn't care. Would still want children to take my name and definitely not a hyphenated name.

So you wouldn’t let the mother of the children have her name with them as well? Just yours? Can you answer why?

Is your question why I wouldn't want a hyphenated name?
Simple answer. 2 people with hyphenated names marry each other. What happens now?

Actually this situation us happening in Quebec now and it's a difficult decision for these young couples to make. A lot are going down to 1 name from a possible 4.

I think at the time of adulthood, the child can choose which name they want to carry on.

My main question is why does your name get to be used for the child? She carries the child, bring it into life, births it, feeds it from her body, gives up her body for at least a year to provide for this child from conception to at least 3 months of breastfeeding, which many go a lot longer, and all you did was have a sperm lucky enough to hit the egg. So why does the child get your last name and what is the father’s line the important one to carry down while the mother‘s line can be ended?

You obviously like to argue and you have made your opinion very clear.
You asked how us men feel and we have told you how we feel.

Why can’t a woman carry on her family name? Some men only have daughters, so what then? The family line just dies? That doesn’t make any sense.

You don’t think this is rather an archaic ideology? Considering our times now?

And again, the amount of paper Work and hassle I, as woman, have to go through to change a name is annoying. Have you ever lost your wallet? Not to mention if the woman has built a career on her last name, all that goes out the window so that a man can feel emotionally secure? Is that the right thing to call it? Emotional security? I don’t see what else to call that feeling you are describing on the man’s side.
"Annoying paperwork" what a weird excuse to not carry a man's name....why not just call it "feminist"? There are many reasons a man would love his wife to carry the name...When you have kids, whose last name are they going to carry? And as you the wife not carrying the husbands surname, how would you prove you're related to your kids since you rather keep your own name because, it's annoying to change it and you wouldn't want to go into that hassle...how do you receive child tax credits, benefits etc etc you can probably prove you are the mother but comes all the "annoying paperwork" to prove you are...

Ok but none of have really explained why. It’s tradition. Ok - but why is that tradition? To carry the family line. Ok but why does the man’s family line get carried and then it is crickets. I am just to get to the root of it and no one is getting there. Other then those who have suggested it is emotional security that men require. Which if that is the case, then ok. We found the root, but no one seems to want to admit that.

Again, I am not agruing. I am challenging the concepts presented to get to the root of the reason.

You are making no sense. Like none. The statement of Life Birth is sent into the government, which is mandatory. Which is one paper, done at the hospital. Which has both parents listed and their current names. Do you know how many women with a different last name from their child, get the tax benefits. LOL Seriously, do some research before posting. You look silly.

But give me the many reasons please. And why can’t the child carry the mothers last name? She did all the work.

Doesn't that go back to your "annoying paperwork" issue? when they have to do that process later in life?

If course I don't make sense...but stop with the annoying paperwork....there's your agenda...just call it a feminist thing and get over it....

Hahahahahha. There is a big difference between signing a single paper at the hospital and changing your name on every government document, so SIN, passport, DL. Then bank accounts, credit cards, bills like rogers, etc. Yeah - I’m going to call that annoying paper work.

You still haven’t answer the question. What are the many reasons a woman should take a husbands name? Give me the reasons please.
