There were "good guys with guns" on scene and they did not stop the killer. There was "a good guy with a gun" in Buffalo (God rest his soul) also did not stop killer. Do you think teachers w handguns would have worked here?

One thing to note was large capacity magazines were banned in the past in USA. Only federal officers could get authorization to carry more than 10 rounds. The bigger clip/magazines used to have stamped into them "federal law enforcement officer only" (or something like that). There are many stories of shooters being stopped/tackled as they had to reload.

Also consider banning body armour except for cops. No 2nd amendment issues there. (Keeping in mind police body armour designed to stop handguns/knives not the .223/5.56 or .30 found in AR-15 style or AK-47 style weapons.)

So after that whole debacle about needed infrastructure, the GOP will suddenly approve spending billions per year to pay for armed guards at every single school in the US?
Over half of the US schools already have a SRO.

Why when you have 19 police officers in the hallway waiting to summon up the courage to do their job? Anyway some teachers, in the case of the two female teachers might not feel that it is really part of their job description or their psychological makeup to be packing heat while looking after 8 year olds.
The situation you are laying out is not as simple as you are making it out to be. Orders were received from the Incident Commander were to wait.

The Incident Commander made a wrong decision to pull back. It was a command failure.

You ever take a close look at fire doors in commercial buildings? They are not easy to open when locked. They open outwards for easy escape. Hard to break down a door that opens towards you and not away from you. Not surprising they needed a key to open the door.

Presumably they had windows.

i've become so numb to these shootings over the years hearing their president and officials talk and do nothing. i remember the Republicans blaming Obamas leadership on this issue only to not support anything that conflicts with the charter of rights. nothing will change over there as there is too much internal fighting and no one can change things. Guns are built into the fabric of US society.
Sadly and unfortunately you are right. The US had a chance to turn things around after Sandy Hook but they didn’t. Children being shot in school is now a fact of life in the US. They are going to have to get used to it as politicians will not change their course.

It’s a damn shame. I can’t even fathom being a parent going back to school shopping and picking out a Kevlar backpack for a kid because of the climate in the US.

Heartbreaking.

One thing for sure. Lots of jurisdictions are going to be throwing a lot more money into school security. Nobody has mentioned how one or two drones and some outward facing security cameras might have helped. Setting up an armory in every school building would help nobody but gun dealers..

Not sure if they still do but the military gives surplus equipment to the police but then the lefties complained about the "militarization" of the police. The lefties would prefer to send in a couple of social workers to convince the maniac that killing kids is not nice.

How long did it take you to figure out how pull this out of your ass?

Texas is a Republican ran state yet it took them over an hour and 19 kids slaughtered to kill the one fucked up teenager with a gun, hmmmmm.

In your own link

"Concerns about the militarization of police have been raised by both ends of the political spectrum in the United States"

" A 2018 study found that militarized police units in the United States were more frequently deployed to communities with large shares of African-Americans, even after controlling for local crime rates.[18]"

please show where this study is funded by leftists??????

Show where in this just in case I missed it, this link posted by you confirms your opinion

Again, take a look at a commercial fire door. Glass is laminated, and many are wire reinforced. If this school was hardened in any way, there would have also been grates or bars on the windows.

The people who complain about the militarization of police are idiots. Origins of police forces are from the military. They've always used military equipment and uniforms going back to their origins. Police forces like Toronto that wear red stripes on their pants get it from the army tradition. Red means infantry. The RCMP wears a yellow stripe because yellow designates cavalry. The red serge is the colour it is because the British got along reasonably well with the native population, so they wanted to build on that goodwill by copying the British Army appearance.

The RCMP had a gatling gun that's now in their museum in Regina that was used to protect the passage to the Yukon during the gold rush.
