I still stand by my opinion that people's expectation of what a School Resource Officer should be able to do is unreasonable.

I used to be in the military. I know first hand that a infantryman trained to kill is generally not suitable to do social work, which is what School Resource officers do. You put a guy with tactical capabilities in that role who has had to pass courses that have a failure rate and you have to be tough to do, the parents will have him kicked out because they don't want to hear their kid is getting guidance he or she is a pussy and should suck it up instead of coming to him with stupid problems.

Yes I do have my opinion on the hour delay. Uvalde is only 15,000 people. They likely don''t have a SWAT team.

U.S. Border Patrol SWAT officers were called in. An hour to contact someone who has a team, assembling them and travelling to the location doesn't sound unrealistic.
AFAIK, these people are not "school resource officers'. The current fantasy crap-oola is that each school will have its own SWAT-SEAL dude in body armour with an M-4 ready to be the "good guy with a gun". If they're also supposed to be guidance counsellors, that's news to me.

I'll check re the SWAT team. The butt-scuttle on the Net is that Uvalde had its own team, but online bullshit is a cheap and plentiful commodity.

The butt-scuttle is that whoever LE was, they waited outside for an hour. If I'm a beat cop with a sidearm, I'm probably neither paid nor trained to storm a school. OTOH, kids are dying and a little "above and beyond" may have saved some young lives.

It's crazy to see all the debates on the action taken by officers... Or that stupid Cruz who suggest leaving only one door and secure it...

Guys a school shooting should not happen! Fix that!

So the police were waiting for the "master key" for all the school doors.

I guess no "battering ram" on hand...

Sad, but true. The Republicans will still relax gun laws even more, too many Americans love guns more than they love/respect people.
i've become so numb to these shootings over the years hearing their president and officials talk and do nothing. i remember the Republicans blaming Obamas leadership on this issue only to not support anything that conflicts with the charter of rights. nothing will change over there as there is too much internal fighting and no one can change things. Guns are built into the fabric of US society.

This is an empirical question so let's look up the stats (will do later). 50 years ago is a turning point, where gun laws tightened because the black panthers chose to exercise the full extent of the existing gun laws.
What did you find?

Also once you remove suicides and gang-related killings from the equation, what do the stats look like?

Your blanket statements are not correct. You have a track record of not doing your research, and I'm sick and tired of looking things up for you.
...
Are you really claiming that professional marksmen choose semi-auto rifles over bolt actions? The only benefit of a semi-auto is the number of rounds you can get off which should be antithetical to any hunter.

And yes, I think America would do much better if they required every gun owner to get a PAL with a thorough background check and mandatory gun safety courses. That's sort of the point.

Ted Cruz Confronted by Journalist, RUNS AWAY
...
Like the allegedly well trained school officers who were unwilling to do anything for 40 minutes (while the GOP/NRA claims we need more of these cops in schools)?

Let's see. How long did it take the Congress to approve all them billions for Ukraine? Literally trillions blown on the ME wars. In just last 1.5 years trillions to explode the inflation. You telling me that money can't be found to have a guy at the door?
So after that whole debacle about needed infrastructure, the GOP will suddenly approve spending billions per year to pay for armed guards at every single school in the US?

For what's got to be the 20th time, do your research.

A military sniper is different than a police sniper, and both are different than a hunter. The tool they choose reflects the mission. A sniper rifle is not a hunting rifle.

Even your statement around the ethics of a hunter using a semi auto is flawed, because you know nothing about hunting and some of the prey hunters go after.

Seriously, go learn in person about these topics you heavily criticize instead of sitting on a computer and reading about it. Get educated.

Trump just shat out his pronouncement at the NRA rally saying they need more guns. I think they had enough guns. For an hour,19 armed law enforcement officials stood waiting in the hallway for backup. A janitor had to open the door for them?

The teachers should have been packing heat.

Why when you have 19 police officers in the hallway waiting to summon up the courage to do their job? Anyway some teachers, in the case of the two female teachers might not feel that it is really part of their job description or their psychological makeup to be packing heat while looking after 8 year olds.
