The Clifford‘s penalty was dumb and could have blown the game wide open for Tampa who actually had the edge in play prior. As it turned out, ironically, that was the turning point imo as Marner and Kertfoot did a phenomenal penalty killing job. Not only they killed the 5 minute major, they out chanced Tampa and from that point on the Leafs looked to be the faster and quicker team. It’s just one game but it’s a first step in the right direction. No doubt Tampa will make adjustments and try to slow down the Leafs and we’ll see if coaching can make a difference.

Tampa will definitely come out of the gates a very different team. I think game 2 will determine which direction this series is going to go.
Outstanding effort by everyone last night.
Win or lose, this is all you can ask from our guys.

i always cringe when Toronto sportscasters talk future games and match-ups before the fat lady sings. Yesterday during the second intermission, the talking heads just assumed the Leafs would win, with 20 min of hockey to go. Last year when up 3-1, all the talk was about their next contender. These assumptions make the humiliating chokes sting so much more. Please no more assumptions, these are the Leafs.

Not that I watched the entire broadcast, but I didn't hear anyone predicting a series win.

Yet IV, with all due respect, you kept talking about how bad the Leafs are and that they have no chance to win. Just sayin'.
With all due respect Shacksterite cut me some slack.

I've been a Leafs fan since Lanny McDonald was a rookie. No sports franchise has been as grossly mismanaged as the Leafs. The Shany Plan is no different, they built a top heavy team without defensive considerations - no surprise they went out in the first round from 2017 onward. After the throat closings against the Canadiens, the rising shit went past my nostrils - BASTA.

So while this was an impressive opening win, my pov of the Leafs remains the same.

Well that was quite a statement last night.

Leafs had every aspect of their game firing on all cylinders.

And the fans were fueling it which was great to witness.

One down.........

I felt the Clifford penalty was the clear turning point. Seems like Tampa had scouted the Toronto power play a certain way on the break in and Toronto had already made the adjustments. That was a horrid 5 minutes for Tampa.

‘I had criticized the Dubas‘ blueprint just as much and as hard as you did, not gritty enough, not physical enough to win puck battles and too top heavy; but I’ve also kept an open mind and been able to see that the new additions this season are making a difference in these areas. I’m also seeing a change in attitude in the leadership group of players, Matthews and Rielly are showing much more grit and determination. Rielly has earned my respect for sticking up for teammates in the last two games. He might have paid a price with some kind of hand injuries but I think the change from “turning the other cheek” to pushing back and higher compete level make them a better playoff team and give them an identity. All these may still be not enough against the two time defending champion but they won’t go down without putting up a good fight. That’s all I can ask for.

Vasilevskiy was terrible...
Was that on the Matthews blast from the faceoff circle, or the Kampf breakaway or the seeing eye shot through about 4 sets of legs by Marner. Even the Muzzin shot was a screen. The one really bad goal I saw was Matthews' second where Vas was very slow to get into position. I know that he can play better, but I'd hardly say that he was terrible.

Which still means that until yesterday you hadn't watched this year's version. New additions and a more mature core.

Good effort by the Leafs. Simmons leveled a clean hit then Perry and Maroon hacked and pestered him all the way down the ice. To the point where he had to defend himself. And for that reason, I can't figure out why he got a $5K fine as well. Clifford's hit, while still a hockey play, got him a misconduct and a one game suspension. Now check out Spurgeon's cross-check and tell me how he gets no misconduct, no suspension, just a fine. WTF?

Muzzin 60 feet out on the boards...Kampf put it underneath of him...TB goalie slid out and wasn't even near the net when Marner shot...lost the puck behind the net on Matthews 2nd goal.

You gotta be sharper than that...

As Mr. Spock would say, "correct Captain", from the episode The Naked Time 1967.

Lol, even the farting and burping couldn't distract from his over the top acting.
That is why he's The Great Shat and Shack is not.;)

Since the NY Islanders, no team has won more than two consecutive Cups. Maybe the Bolts are fatigued, if so they are ripe for the picking. I was shocked that the Leafs were protecting their goalie, is Culford Nostromo actually responsible for tightening the Leafs blueline?

Stop mangiacaking his given name, it's Marc Giordano.

That's nothing, listen to this one.
Nick Abruzzese scores his first NHL goal. April 29th, 2022 - YouTube

I was at the game and they announced it over the loudspeaker the same way.
Doesn't anyone bother to ask for the correct pronunciation, it's not that exotic.

Abrugissi, is that a type of eggplant?

So Spezza is from Brampton, Simmonds is from Scarborough, Tavares is from Mississauga and Giordano is from Black Creek Village...have I missed anyone?
