Let's just hope for this year that Edmonton prevails over Calgary in the West. Otherwise the only Canadian team will be the fricken' Flames, and talk about torture...
I am a hockey fan and it was torture...I don't care if a Canadian team wins.
The rest of Canada loooves to mock Leaf fans for the team's futility. Ain't no way I'm cheering for any other Canadian team (unless they're playing the Flyers or the Bruins).

The Habs have my fullest faith and confidence... that they will fuck up their draft picks and or ruin the players they do get.

The winning formula (a better term than system) that they created and perfected dictates starting with strong goaltending. Then defence and lastly forwards. A 30 year drought, even with this formula, is just a blip on the screen. A small streak of bad luck for management.

While Shane Wright could be an NHL star (superstar?) he might be only part of the answer. Historically, Montreal built their teams starting with the goalie, defense and then forwards.
For example, Matthews (5 seasons) and McDavid (6 seasons) are superstars and 1st overall draft picks but their teams haven't won anything meaningful in the playoffs yet and I stress yet because they are still young.
What has Montreal's formula for success got them in the last 30 years. Their only 2 runs have been when a goalie has stood on his head for 16 games.
Historically speaking they haven't followed their own formula since the late 70's, when they had good managemment. Any playoff success since then has been flukey. Why have they had such little success. (Not that I'm expecting an intelligent, informed and respectful reply.)
I have read in a number of places that while he's a solid prospect, and probably the best of this year's crop, he not remotely considered a generational talent that could/should be viewed as a 'saviour' for the MTL franchise.
Wright looks to be a solid two way centre who is strong in all areas of the ice but as you said not a generational talent offensively by any stretch of imagination.
The thinking is he could be like Patrice Bergeron.
And if could fulfill or come close to those expectations then the Habs would be thrilled I'm sure.
I think the Habs will be happy with a Bergeron type player. As I mentioned in another post 1st overall draft pics McDavid and Matthews have won nothing meaningful in the Stanley Cup playoffs yet.
