Dirty play by Matthews cross checking Dahlin in the head/neck. Will cost him. The more I see of this side of him, the more of a big suck he seems.
Trade the bum and Marner with him, they're not going anywhere but the golf course anyway. Some cheery thoughts from a long time Leafs fan who's had enough, life's too short.

On the highway of life
That sounds like the Montreal model. Goalie, defense, forwards and specialty teams in that order.

Montreal value goalies so highly they even drafted
Vladislav Tretiak.
They also drafted junior superstar Troy Crosby.

Historically, the Habs have always managed to find great goalies. Plante was before my time but I did manged to see Worsley, Vachon, Dryden, Lacroque, Roy, Theodore and Price in real time.

"During his career, Theodore is credited with 111.0 goalie point shares, ahead of 15 HOF goalies whose whole career can be assessed. Those 15 goalies are Ed Giacomin, Tiny Thompson, Johnny Bower, Ken Dryden, Frank Brimsek, George Hainsworth, Bill Durnan, Alec Connell, Clint Benedict, Roy Worters, Gerry Cheevers, Chuck Rayner, Charlie Gardiner, and Georges Vezina. 111.0 goalie point shares is behind 15 HOF goalies, meaning that Theodore ranks right square in the middle - 16th out of 31 - of the all-time greats.

Theodore's GPS/G is 0.1713, which is right there in the highest echelon as well. Higher than Brodeur, higher than Belfour, higher than Lumley, higher than Worsley, higher than Fuhr.

Hall of Fame goalies who are ahead of Theodore both in total goalie point shares and in GPS/G are as follows: Patrick Roy, Terry Sawchuk, Tony Esposito, Glenn Hall, Jacques Plante, Dominik Hasek, Rogie Vachon, Bernie Parent, Billy Smith, and Turk Broda. That's all. Every single other goalie in the HOF falls behind Theodore.

Since the Hart Trophy came into existence, a goalie has been awarded it just 8 times: twice by Dominik Hasek, and once each by Theodore, Worters, Rayner, Plante, Al Rollins, and Carey Price. Hasek, Worters, Rayner, and Plante are all enshrined, and Price may end up there.

Theodore's goalie point share total is 111.0 and 0.1713 per game. Worters is 75.7 and 0.1564, respectively; Rayner is 61.6 and 0.1449. Theodore has an even more decided advantage when we consider that goalies in the era of Worters and of Rayner played every game, giving them a big push in any per-game stat that a later goalie would not have. Theodore comes in for two minutes and is credited/charged with a game played; that simply didn't happen to any meaningful extent when Worters and Rayner manned the nets."

Matthews to sit two games.
Deserved. He fucked up, the league is holding him accountable even though he's one of their superstars. Good for them. Even when you're rich, I'm sure it's a piss off to have to fork over $120K for not having your emotions in check.

Funny - now the Leafs are spinning it as Matthews sending a message to the league he won't be pushed around. Like that will make a difference, like anyone is actually afraid of him. If anyone was afraid of him, he wouldn't be getting the physical attention he gets now. This isn't the first time Matthews has swung his stick, it's just the first time he did it in such an overt manner, and during one of the league's marquee TV broadcasts. Nothing will change for him vis a vis the other players, and the refs will be even more inclined to look the other way after he tried on two occasions back to back to publicly embarrass one of their own. Dumb plays on his part. He hasn't made his own life any easier.

He’s lucky he only got suspended for two.
Really? What do you think Chara got for this?

There's lots of other examples of cross-checks to the neck and head where players only received a fine. They're not hard to find.

Yeah, I'm sure a guy like Matthews blows his nose in fifty dollar bills, and wipes his ass with hundreds. That's how people with money usually tend to manage that money. They basically don't give a shit what happens to it or why because there's always more on the pile.

I don't get why you have such a hard on for this guy, it almost sounds like it's personal.
He's getting pounded and crosschecked in front of the net and you want him to take it like a bitch.

Not even a little bit of a twinge in the nether regions. Matthews is a great player, plays both ways, in the corners, in front of the net. Forecheck, backcheck, paycheck. All good. I don't like any player when they start crying/complaining to the refs. Work through it. And by that, I don't mean cross-check someone in the neck and paralyze them for life. There is good clean, but tough hockey. Then there's the dirty stuff. Matthews has a tendency for the dirty stuff, and gets away with a lot of it because he a league superstar. Doesn't mean it's right. Doen't mean I have to like/respect him for that stuff. Never liked when Gretzky, Lemieux, or Crosby did that shit either - whining and bitching on the ice. A lot of others in the league take worse and don't moan about it, nor do they resort to dirty stuff.

You missed the point of my post. It was that I doubt just because he makes $11M a season he doesn't care he just got dinged for $120K. I'm sure he plenty pissed over that, even if he doesn't need FFA to start him up a Go Fund Me page. It's called sarcasm.

There's no way you could have played any competitive hockey, if you did you could never judge any of these guys this way.
All of a sudden Matthews is dirty?
He got cross checked twice, he retaliated.
You're ok with Dahlin going after Matthews though, he's not a dirty sucky player because he couldn't take a clean hit.
I bet Dahlin doesn't even get a penalty if it wasn't for Matthews retaliation.
It's too bad he didn't take a couple of teeth out, it would have been worth the suspension.
You want to keep your emotions in check, be my guest, if somebody came at me like Dahlin did he'd get a serious beatdown.

Dahlin hit Matthews 3X, twice into the crossbar...retaliate for sure...but...the crosscheck in the head might have been over the line...good for him.

LOL! If you only knew how much hockey I've played and at what levels. Believe me, I know hockey, and have the surgical scars, lumpy nose, and false teeth to prove it. There's playing with toughness and grit, and there's dirty play. Matthews has some of both in him. One side I like, the other not so much. Just my opinion. You don't have to agree.

If truth be known, Matthews didn't like the fact that he got flattened with a clean, open ice hit just outside the Buffalo blue line (where a rail thin rookie had to defend him), nor that he got out-muscled by Dahlin in the crease where Dahlin landed him into the net. He pulled a suck move and cross-checked Dahlin in the neck. But hey, if he's your type of player in that regard, fill your boots. You're entitled to like whoever you want.
