Brutal loss to Buffalo last night. The Leafs weaknesses are really starting to show at the 3/4 pole. Something very significant needs to change or this team is going nowhere in the playoffs, no matter what kind of high octane offense Matthews and Marner can provide on their own.

Good to know that they shouldn't change the lines. Keep what they have in place, goaltending is key - PM35 might need to be dealt - not showing the signs as of yet.

I think the best thing they could do is trade for MA Fleury. That totally changes the complexion of the team and could be enough to compensate for weaknesses on defense. How they make that trade happen is open to speculation.

They definitely weren't thinking that way around Nov/Dec. It makes a lot of sense right now, though.

How much would they have to give up? Chicago knows that the Leafs are in deep need of goaltending and could squeeze them. Not sure, but I don't think that the Leafs want to trade away any high draft picks.

Another option to pursue could be Georgiev of the Rangers. They have bodies they could package (not all, 1-2) - guys like Dermott, Kerfoot, Engvall, Holl, Mrazek and/or a prospect like Robertson, Ovvchinikov, Abramov, Woll that could make an attractive package along with maybe a conditional second/third round pick.

No point in giving away draft picks, they're going to get swept in the first round regardless. I do have a question: who's Joseph Woll, why have the Leafs given him a contract extension when he's not even on the team?

He's making $7M. That's a lot of money to bury in the minors until playoff time.

Georgiev is no better than what they got now...

Wouldn't it just be pro-rated? (I'm not a capologist.)
I'm definitely not a capologist either but my understanding is that it is the total value of the contracts
combined at any given time that determines the cap space.
Pro-rating is only to calculate what is left to pay out.
Hopefully someone can clarify.
