I can't say I completely disagree with anything you're saying but until we have a better vaccine we have no choice but to roll with what we have. We can't suggest vaccines or boosters are not necessary until then. Most of us agreed with the vaccination and got the two shots because it helped with the symptoms and original strains and was good for the intended strain back when it was originally designed and overwhelmed icu and put a strain on supplies and ventilators.
The question is whether the old vaccine is still valid for the new strains and how much it actually helps with the current strains. I think that’s what dr. Malone is trying to get at.
Why aren’t they adjusting the vaccine then to cover the new strains. Like you highlighted many issues with that. The question is then is it needed. Some jurisdictions don’t think so while others do as you can see with the openings and not requiring the booster.
Can’t cancel the original vaccination requirement because of the damage it will do particularly to public trust and it still offers benefits. Question is how much and when does it stop being effective and needs to change if necessary.
Like Ontario’s top doctor said this is the new reality and slowly it will try to phase it out based on trends (between the lines). It we get more strains that are more severe obviously it will change however it seems like the strains are not as severe as they used to be.
Eventually it will phase out the vaccination requirements if the strains become a less severe, but now they can’t due to the damage it will do. I think this is the issue at heart.
Unless Covid peters out or global vaccination is high enough to reach some level approaching herd immunity, vaccination in some form will always be needed. I think everyone will always be in favour of better vaccines.
