It will be interesting to see what happens. If USC decides to play it smart this time, they should take their time and find the right fit for the long term.Depends who is calling the plays and coming up with a game plan in KC.
Eric may be just running practice while Andy Ried does the game plan and calls all plays. Which is what I would expect.
The other issue at USC was that they didn’t have a good Athletic Director when Lynn Swann was there, but he left in 2019 so the new AD had to clean up the mess. Now that the department has a good AD from what I’ve read, they can carry out a head coaching job search.
This Kansas City candidate may be good, but they need to stop and think about what they need for the long term.
I’m pretty confident that USC wouldn’t be in this mess if they’d kept Ed Orgeron who is a fantastic recruiter in addition to being a great coach. They said he didn’t “fit” the USC image because he’s not the country club type. I’m glad Orgeron got a national title at LSU.
I also read that Bob Stoops is under consideration but who knows if he wants to come out of retirement.
Another source mentioned Urban Meyer, but he just started with the Jaguars and probably doesn’t want to make a move.
Hopefully, the new USC AD and the Board will take their time and find someone who can rebuild the program.
Just my thoughts.
