New thread for a new season. Expansion draft imminent, amateur draft looming on the horizon. Which way will Shanny and Dubas slide next?

Apparently, Hyman's agent received permission to talk to other teams.

The first four rounds of the draft the Leafs have one pick - at number 57 in round 2.
Picks in rounds 1, 3 and 4 have been traded away.
Pretty sad state of affairs. Hoping Dubas does something to get back to at least a pick in the first round this year.

The problem is that these players, if they develop, won't be available until after this window of opportunity closes.
Shanahan did not stick to the Shanaplan.

I was shocked the Leafs gave up a 1st for Foligno, even though he was the kind of player they theoretically needed it was just a massive overpay for a gritty third line type of player whose contract was up. The 3rd for the Flames goalie was a waste.
Having said that, I don't blame them for being aggressive, the Canadian division getting to the semis made this the year to go for it. The Leafs just gave up too much and had bad luck with the Tavares and Foligno injuries and the nonsensical delayed start to the playoffs for the Canadian division which allowed Price more time to recover from his injuries.
The strategy was sound but the execution from front office to the players doomed the Leafs.

Leafs sucks , it doesn't matter what they do , regular season means nothing. They can't get past the 1st round.
The leafs overpaid young stars don't show up in the playoffs.
I went into the sport chek , they selling leafs jerseys over $200, they should be selling other nhl teams jersey

The "Noisy Trio" will be pissed at what you said about their beloved Leafs.

Hyman as good as gone.

Dubas said Leafs can "win it all". What does Dubas know that you don't?

Hyman going, but Dubas defiant core Leafs can win | Toronto Sun

They can’t afford to keep Hyman. It sucks to lose him but he was never going to return.

Just wondering if there is any more room in your head for people to live rent free.

It's flattering to be mentioned so often.

Apparently, the Sharks offered JT $91mm.
"Tavares rejected higher-paying offers in favour of joining the Maple Leafs, such as the San Jose Sharks (one of the six teams vying for his services), who offered him a seven-year, $91 million contract.[64] The Sharks' contract offer would have made Tavares the highest-paid player in the NHL. Tavares' decision to sign with the Maple Leafs proved to be divisive."

The first wasn't for Foligno. It was for Columbus to retain a big chunk of his salary and cap hit so they could fit him under the cap.

He turned down bigger offers from the Bruins and maybe the Habs too. I'm surprised the Islanders didn't offer him the extra year unless they knew he was leaving anyways.

First three picks are two forwards and one goalie. No D-man, maybe none met the benchmark.

Looking at the Bruin and Hab salary structures, they do not overpay players. Price is the only player over $10mm but then again he is the best goaltender of his generation.

The courtship of John Tavares. We now have 3 years of hindsight.
How the Toronto Maple Leafs signed John Tavares - Sportsnet.ca
The Bruins usually don't but have a time or two. I think they were in on him. The Habs have made big offers to players like Brett Hull in the past but were turned down. I don't think Tavares was interested in listening to them. Tavares was coming to Toronto because it's home for him. I knew we got him when Doughty and Karlsson resigned but he hadn't

I would have thought that Tavares isn't physical enough for the Bruins and not fast enough for the Habs.
