It's been a rough 24 hours for Montreal Canadien Brendan Gallagher, who was robbed while in Tampa for the Stanley Cup Final.

And the country certainly wasn't behind them. I barely watched it. None of my friends watched it. I suspect the ratings will be shit except in Quebec.

I disagree. I suspect more people in the country watched it than you think. Significantly less people would have watched a Vegas - Tampa Bay final as opposed to a Canadiens - Tampa Bay series.

Anyway, the Habs have a 3-1 playoff record (only one team is 4-0). Any intelligent, knowledgeable and objective hockey fan/observer will agree the Habs performed exceptionally well in the playoffs.

That is the difference between hockey in the south American states and Canada.

Don't get me wrong Tampa Bay is a great team. The problem is that there is no passion behind their victory. No one cares.

You have to be careful about making these comments however.

Not talking specifically about you, but some take the perspective that a Montreal fan is almost automatically better than a Tampa fan because of the large group support.

The thing is at the indicidual leve many of these fans are just as passionate and smart as Habs fans. There are just fewer of them. When you are in a market with less fans you have to search harder for information — that search tends to make one more informed of the game. Deducted fans of small market are as a whole sometimes smarter than dedicated fans of a large markets because they have to work and seek knowledge more.

I will give you an example. I was a hardcore Expos fans until the end. Some people would say Expos fans know nothing because there is a lack of support. Which was a farce. But as an individual I was smarter than many fans, and I went through a lot of crap following the team to the end. That was passion. Passion is not just about numbers of fans.

And cities like Portland, Hamilton, Hartford, Quebec and a few other cities should have had a hockey team before florida or arizona... I went to games in both of these places and it's dry... Look at how Atlanta let go of their hockey team and is now thriving with a soccer team that fills up 40k crowd in average! Soccer will eat up the market down there because next to no one cares about hockey.

You know you can compare rating from 2021 to prior years right?

Is 25 games in 42 days to end the season lucky?

I would retort further on the 18th place stat and how they do not deserve to be on the playoffs. and all this luck, but i already did it before to a s88 post and no one responded.

Fair enough. As a group that lacks passion on a mass scale in those cities. But some of the fans that follow the team are very passionate.

As for the support. Tampa had some low periods but they have did OK attendance wise generally even in their down years. They have not been at the levels of Miami or Phoenix even if not that great.
