This is great thing to do by removing the names of people who did very bad things to other people specifically people of colours and native Canadians / indigenous people.

Of course, it cannot revert back the past of these horrors that they made. However, there is no need to continue honouring them by having their names / surnames in the public places and street names.

I wonder why do we still have the picture and name of John A. MacDonald in our notes. The notes that still have his pictures and name should be recalled and reprinted with someone else.

People complain that it will cost millions of dollars for the name change. That is good thing because the millions spent will be spent on some companies and people who work in those companies to do all the changes of street signs and etc. So it actually does good things to the local economy to create more works to people from the government's spending to have this name change.
Why then do we still celebrate the monarchy in this country then? Get rid of the images of the Queen, Victoria Day, etc. or anything that's remotely attached to the monarchy. By extension, that means The Charter of Rights and Freedoms should go too because The Queen signed it into law. We should also get rid of the British parliamentary system we're still holding onto.

It should be clear that the lists of things to be offended about has no end. There's no practical way to cleanse all of that out of the country. Even if you could, it won't change happening on the ground in the reserves. Focus on those problems first! As for road signs, I believe the MTO does that work so it really only benefits those workers.

On 2 April 1792, abolitionist William Wilberforce sponsored a motion in the House of Commons "that the trade carried on by British subjects, for the purpose of obtaining slaves on the coast of Africa, ought to be abolished." He had introduced a similar motion in 1791, which was soundly defeated by MPs, with a vote of 163 opposed, 88 in favour.[12] Dundas was not present for that vote, but when it was again before MPs in 1792, Dundas tabled a petition from Edinburgh residents who supported abolition.[13] He then went on to affirm his agreement in principle with Wilberforce's motion: "My opinion has been always against the Slave Trade." He argued, however, that a vote for immediate abolition would be ineffective, as it would drive the slave trade underground. He anticipated, in particular, that merchants from other countries would step in to fill the gap left by the British. He stated: "this trade must be ultimately abolished, but by moderate measures".[14] He suggested that eventually slavery and the slave trade should be abolished but that this should not apply to the current generation of enslaved people who, he claimed would not benefit from immediate emancipation.[13] He then introduced an amendment that would add the word "gradual" to the Wilberforce motion. The amendment was adopted, 192 in favour, 125 opposed. The motion as amended then passed 230 in favour, 85 opposed.[15] For the first time, Parliament voted to end the slave trade.

Tom Hardy never announced that there would be no second season of Taboo. Probably just as well.

The character of James Delaney is fictional but the atrocity the mini series is based on is fact. In 1781 a ship known as the Zong, sub-let by the British East India Company, where 132 african slaves were thrown overboard. It is known to this day as The Zong Massacre.

Joseph Brant owned about 30 slaves.
So we are going to rename Brantford, the Joseph Brant hospital as well as the neighborhood of Tyandaga and the township and reserve of Tyendinaga [his Mohawk name]

You know because slavery is wrong. Oh right I forgot, slavery and genocide is perfectly alright when Indians do it.

For that matter what about all those statues of the Jesus.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17)
“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 5:18-19
“It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid.” (Luke 16:17)

Therefore slavery, yay.
“‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

Also the New Testiment doubles down on huzzah for slavery.

So smash down crosses, burn down churches.
From the Booketh of Constipation, The guy said buildith a big boateth for cometh is the great diahrhea , thenus aftereth thateth, Fred part six happendethed, in Walter chapter four, the priests shouted to the invisible fairy, WE NEED BUMS TO VIOLATE? and the fairy on the 56th afternoon created ALTER BOYS, and the fairy speaking from a burning school atop mount Cornhole said henceforth ye shall all be known as A- Men

Amen

We should change the names of streets. We can make people feel better about themselves without actually asking anyone to do anything.
Kinda like setting CO2 goals. Set some sort of goals with no plan or intention of doing anything about it and people can go along with their day, driving big honking SUVs and doing air travel in the comfort of knowing that something is being done even if nothing is being done.
Or recycling where you can continue to consume and ignoring the other 2 Rs or reduce and reuse because effort and gross. Who cares if it's effective. hell nobody really cares if it all goes to the land fill as long as you can have the good feels.

Reminds me of Yes Minister where Appleby makes the point that health care spending isn't to cure the sick but to make people feel better about themselves and even if the money is wasted, as long as people don't find out about it, they are happy.

Just find some other person with the name Dundas and rededicate it after him/her.

Problem solved and city and street name remain the same.

Yes Minister and the later Yes Prime Minister show was awesome! Humphrey was my favourite character.

In the spirit of Humphrey, perhaps it actually would be cheaper to change the names of the streets without actually fixing anything else!

Except for Appleby in Burlington. Anyone messes with that and I will rain on them like Orphans. I will end them.

Ditto for (Charles) Bronson street in Ottawa.

We’re in for some shit now. How far can this go? The answer seems to be for a very long time as politicians can tweek it to stay in office or gain office. Canada is a former colony and was established under colonialism and the names of streets, places and institutions expectedly reflect this past. Where does it stop? Ultimately the term the ”crown” or the royal family will become undesirable if the current climate continues and it will, but Canada is still a Commonwealth Nation at this time and not a Republic.

Sound like he was a gradualist. People prefer Abraham Lincoln who speeded things up by starting a war that killed over 700,000 people and destroyed the Southern economy.

Lincoln didn't start a war to free the slaves.

I have the perfect solution, we should rename Dundas street into the Swedish version of Dundäs street.
That way they will just have to add 2 dots to every street sign, which will cost very little.

We'll just tell the Natives that Bjorn Dundäs was a noble warrior who fought against slavery and colonialism.
He also fought against global warming, plastic bags and trans-fatty acids.

The Libtards will eat that shit right up.
Maybe they'll even erect a statue for Bjorn Dundäs (y)

I like the idea of finding another Dundas.
"We name the street after Helen Dundas, a toronto resident who always rewound her VHS videos, made excellent blueberry pie, loved the Leafs and was known as one of the friendlier Loblaws cashiers. This street is named in her honour as she represents everyday Canadians everywhere who are polite, work hard, avoid the limelight, and make this country great." Trudeau or Ford or whomever makes this move - just call an election immediately afterward and win in a landslide.

Otherwise I say we call it Bazokajoe Alley.
