Headline is not accurate. It is under review. Not a done deal. Call your councilor and mayor. Let's not rename any street that offends anyone, ever.
Stupid council and mayor. Seriously. No one even knew the actual origin of the name before. It is not commemorating anyone really.
Wasting millions for what? Virtue signaling? Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.
14,000 signed a petition from a city of 3million.
It will cost MILLIONS of dollars that could be much better spent. Not to mention all the businesses and homes from Toronto to Hamilton.

Edit: they want to change ALL colonizer street names - King St Queen St Yonge Street Victoria Park you name it, it 100% offends someone.
Learn from the past, but do not think for a second that changing a name or destroying public facilities will ever rewind the past.

The woke crowd will never run out of thing to do. This is just another example. They have little regard for how much it will cost taxpayers, business and home owners to make the change.

I mean if people are so offended by a street named Dundas, there's probably hundreds of streets that were named after unsavory characters. Maybe the government can set up a new department (at the costs of millions of taxpayer dollars) to background check every town and street name in Canada.

Will they go after The Dundas Street Bakery that's been around for 74 year in the town of Napanee next? Of course, if that Dundas street wasn't named after Henry Dundas, then there's no need to change it. Which brings me to my next point. Why not name it after another another person with the name Dundas?

While I am sensitive to the motivations to change the name, the money spent to make this change is such a terrible waste.
Instead the city can invest a tiny fraction of these millions to place a few monuments on Dundas Street that explain who he was and that while the street may still bear his name, it is no longer in honour of him. Declare that the honour was revoked in 2021 with the explanation of why.

Joseph Brant owned about 30 slaves.
So we are going to rename Brantford, the Joseph Brant hospital as well as the neighborhood of Tyandaga and the township and reserve of Tyendinaga [his Mohawk name]

You know because slavery is wrong. Oh right I forgot, slavery and genocide is perfectly alright when Indians do it.

For that matter what about all those statues of the Jesus.
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17)
“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” — Matthew 5:18-19
“It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid.” (Luke 16:17)

Therefore slavery, yay.
“‘Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

Also the New Testiment doubles down on huzzah for slavery.

So smash down crosses, burn down churches.

The Dundas Street Bakery
Maybe you should spend 1,000 dollars at this bakery every day, to help pay the cost of a name change.

But you won't.

Conservatives like to complain about helping business, but when it comes time to open their wallets and actually help, they remain silent.

Maybe we should change all streets in Canada to numbers or letters.
example, first street, second street or A street, B street.

And any street named after a religious person should be axed to.

How about we put a second S in the name? That would make changing it really easy. Just need to spray paint road signs. It would be perfect for Dundass West and Dundass subway stations.

Huh? Why should it be up to me to help pay for the name change? I'm not in favour of changing the name in the first place. Go back and read my post. It should be pretty obvious where I stand.

Too expensive. For the subway stations alone, the walls would need to be ripped out. It will take at least 3 unionized workers per sign and that will take months if not years to do. Adding an extra S to the end of Dundass is the cheapest option. Just hire any random person to spray paint the extra letter. Few will probably notice.

Sometimes adding or removing a letter makes all the difference.

Wonderful idea,

Number Streets east to west.

Number Avenues North to South.

Break it down into zones,

Crescents can be letter A, B, C for the sides you are on.

Zone 1, 4th Avenue, 10th Street A. House number 10A-11.
