2 things I've taken away from this season so far:

1. Vladdie is turning into a great 1Baseman.
2. Bo is turning into a world class shortstop.

Just my 2 pennies worth. I'm getting pretty drunk though.

Meanwhile we're getting killed by Houston 10-1

The only areas that Toronto was weak today was at the plate, in the field and on the mound.

Aside from that, their uniforms looked good. I like those hats with the powder blue bills. Maybe I'll ask for one for Father's Day.

Wouldn't you all like to see the Buffalo Jays play in person? One more reason to reopen the Peace Bridge✌👍...

For fuck sakes, are you saying Jays FO can't sign homegrown players when they become FA's?????
Sure they can, but so can any other team. The player is free to go where ever they like for whatever money they want.

I'm going to give you a scenario, and if this doesn't illustrate how little sense your making I don't know what will.

Lets say Marcus Stroman and Sanchez were never traded, and they put up the exact same numbers they did for the Jays as they did for teams they were traded to. (Which was almost zero )

Now, lets put your GM hat on for a moment. Now they are about to hit free agency and done almost nothing over the last two years for your team.

A) If you knew in hind sight what both were going to do over the past two years (again, pretty much nothing on a rebuild team) would you still hang on to them or trade them and trying get something for them?

B) After two years of very non-productive baseball, Stroman says he might stay if you give him 20 million a season and Sanchez say he'll might stay if you give him 5 million a season.

Would you offer them these contracts?

Or would you spend your 25 million on a player with much better productivity in more recent years?

I would, because I've invested so much time and energy in both players when they were minor league youth players, that I would take a gamble and hope it pays off if/when both payers matured and developed into major league players.

I get what you're saying, there are no guarantees in life (or sports).
But whats the point in playing the game if you dont take gambles from time and time??

Who is to say that 25 million dollar player does not shit the bed for the next few years?

Baseball is part skill, part instinct and part luck when selecting a team.

You have a point. Since becoming a Yankee Giancarlo Stanton has hit 54 home runs out of his career total of 320. 54 home runs in 4 years, that's four less than he hit for the Marlins in 2017.

Yes, but the point I was trying to make to Phil is they were going to be in the exact same boat with Stroman and Sanchez if they didn't make the trade. Now, they could sign them for the same price on the open market, but they got two free pieces out of the deal. He's making some bizarre connection to what a free agent does on a new contract to a trade of players under current contract, when one has nothing to do with the other. The same way a team that's completely out of play off race has a star player that will demand a huge contract they can't afford the next year so they decide to become sellers at the trade deadline. They trade them to a contender at the trade deadline. The next year when he signs his fat new contract and gets off to a good start, do you think the team that traded him says "oh fuck, he's off to a good start under his new contract, we shouldn't have traded him for prospects"?

Phil making zero sense and it's some of the dumb shit I've ever heard by someone that watches baseball as much as he does. (sorry Phil, but it's true)

Of course a free agent can be a bust, but the Jays would have had to sign Stroman and Sanchez to the same amount money either way, so what the Jays did was trade two guys that did pretty much nothing for two years, and got two prospects back, and their in the exact boat. They could have signed Stroman and Sanchez to a collective 25 million, or given Marcus Semion 18 million with 7 million on another player.

Stroman had a good year in 2019 before he got traded.
His W/L sucked but he had a 2.96 ERA and an almost 1 to 3 BB/K ratio.
Sanchez I admit wasnt very good, but he did have a lot of injuries plus blister problems.

If I were GM I would've at the very least offered Stroman a 2 to 3 year contract when he became a FA. Instead they traded him.
Sanchez was a 50/50 case. Do you offer him a 1-year deal when he became FA?? Maybe, maybe not.
But Stroman for sure I wouldve tried to keep. At least offer him a deal.
AFAIK Jays GM didnt do that.

What is so hard to understand about all this??
