I don't understand why he didn't pull him after the second walk and have someone else come. Arghh! Have 2 pitchers warming up ALWAYS!
Montoya said afterwards Chatwood's job is to go two innings in that spot. Stephen Brunt said on the Fan590 that he handled how he answered the question wrong. For whatever that means.

The pen has been overworked and some guys are probably gassed. Oracle just pointed out that the Jays starting rotation is near the bottom in terms of innings pitched which puts a burden on the relievers. And they've had injuries to boot. If they had Merryweather and or Yates that changes everything for Montoyo.

So even getting guys warming up in the 'pen can tire them out more. Not trying to defend Charlie as it was very painful to watch but he is in a tough position.

From the way Stripling was pitching in game 1, I think he could have completed 7 innings for the win, thus saving Dolis and Romano for game 2.

Exactly.

Why use them in game 1 when it was not necessary?

I forget the exact stats but he had a 0.53 ERA through his 1st 16 appearances or so. TBH, the last two outings were not just bad, they were absolutely atrocious, especially yesterday. 21 pitches, 16 were balls and most were not even close. It's a Jekyll and Hyde.

The previous was pretty much equally as bad.

Did Vlady watch Monday night's farce?

He went 4-4 including his 17th hr. He decided to become Dikembe Mutombo and make everyone feel better.

Can a voice possibly sound sweeter?

So Aaron Sanchez and Stroman are quietly having a good season for Astros and Mets so far this year.
They wouldve fit in perfectly into our current lineup.

And what did we get back for them?? Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods Richardson for Stro.....LOL
And Derek Fisher for Sanchez....double LOL

*sigh* I wish people would evaluate trades properly.

Just goes to show why all those media people and fans are just that, especially the ones that were irate over the Arron Sanchez trade which clearly there was no market for. Lets break down the trades shall we?

So the Astros get Joe Biagini and Sanchez who did fuck all for them and barley played, while we got Fisher back, a possible prospect who put up good numbers in the minors which we then flipped for
Paxton Schultz. So we basically gave away nothing for Paxton Schultz. So far the trade is a push. If Paxton Schultz turns out to be anything at all, we win that trade.

Now on to Marcus Stroman. Stroman makes 11 starts in total with an ERA of 3.77 for the two years he pitched under contract. (before signing again) In return we got Anthony Kay who has been awful, and the real person they wanted Simeon Woods Richardson. Again, worst case scenario, Simeon Woods Richardson doesn't pan out and it's a push. If Richardson becomes any type of serviceable player, we win the trade. (He's only 20)

In essence we gave up nothing for nothing or possibly something. The trades are either a push or we win end up winning them. There's also a possibility we flip them for player that helps us win now.

Yet another very smart move by Atkins. These guys know their shit, and they're going to bring a WS back to the 6ix.

You've got a lot of if, ands, or buts there.

I'd rather have the sure thing in Stroman and Sanchez

no, there's no "if, and or buts". The worst case scenario is the trades are push. A better case scenario is we end up winning the trades. There's no other scenario where trades end up being bad.

Paxton Schultz is pitching at A ball. He is most likely to be at least 2 to 3 years away from being called up (if ever).
Anthony Kay so far has sucked.
Simeon is back Double AA.

If we had kept Sanchez/Stroman and thrown some money at them when they became free agents, we would have 2 good starting pitchers right now

Do you know what a free agent is???

Do you not understand they both signed as free agents?

Under the contracts they had when traded, neither one of them did fuck all for the teams they went to
No need to get snippy dude. You think its a good trade, I think its a horrible trade.
Apparently I'm not the only one who think it sucks

I’m not getting snippy Phil, but I’m trying to understand your logic. Your talking about two guys that signed with teams as free agents, and pretty much did nothing for the teams they were traded to before that.

If you want to make the argument that Toronto should have went after them as free agents this year, that’s a different conversation, otherwise explain how these were bad trades without just randomly stating they were bad trades.

I'm saying that both Sanchez and Stro are starting to mature and peak now, and IMO they wouldve done that for whatever team they were traded to, or became free agent for (only Sanchez was a FA by the way, Stro stayed with team he got traded to).

So had the Jays stuck with these 2 and been more patient with them, it wouldve paid off now because they would fit in perfectly with our current team

No, they were both FA's, and who knows if they would have stayed. Just because Stroman stayed with the Mets, doesn't mean he wasn't an FA. Again, your making assumptions about free agents. I don't understand....

So, great, they matured after their contracts were up. What good would that do us? Your in the same boat. You still have to sign them for a deal you think is the right price, amongst other issues.

We can this conversation with every single FA there was in the off season. Why they weren't offered a contract will very based on a ton of variables. Should we go down the list of every single that was an FA and figured out why they weren't offered a contract?
