John Tavares is lucid but concussed. It could have been worse, he could have had a Gary Roberts type injury.

He issued a statement, but that's the last you'll hear from him for a minimum of a week. I suspect he's on Topamax already, a powerful anit-stroke medicaton, it will render him bed bound. Sidney Crosby was on it until they diagnosed his neck injury correctly.

I thought the Gary Roberts thing ended up being more of a chronic problem
He's stuck in the '70s.
no, I’m really not. It’s ludicrous what you guys are expecting. You don’t want people to get hurt? It’s simple, take fighting and hitting out of the game. It’s not that hard.

Your fucking trying to regulate a situation where your saying “it’s okay to be violent, but be super careful how you do it under these specific circumstances.” It’s fucking nonsense and give your head a shake.
Why do you think the NHL allows fighting and hitting???

I wouldn't get worked up over it...he's being a dick just to be difficult.
Really Jack wad?

We can break this down a number of ways. The NHL allows fighting. So why don’t we start making rules like “you can punch a guy in the eye, but not in the jaw. You can also punch him in nose, but not in the ear”. Despite the the fact your both trying to punch each other’s daylights out, if you happen to connect on the jaw as opposed to the eye, it’s a suspension.
Does that work for you?

It’s apparent that most of you guys have never never played hockey at a high level. I did. I fought mike pecca and Florida panthers tough guy Shawn antoski. I know what I’m talking about

And I also fought one of the toughest guys in hockey not to make it to the NHL, Jason Paine, so don’t come at with views from the peanut gallery

You should send that view to the NHL...

Peca and Antoski eh...they’d probably agree that hockey has changed since 1987.

I don’t know if you’re telling the truth or not but what I do know is you’re just being difficult for the fun of it which is why I say you’re just being a dick...you have said nothing that makes me think “wow...this guy is a high IQ hockey guy”...again, you’re just being a dick.

Easily the best game Matthews has played imo, even better than his first nhl game in which he scored 4. He was physical, won nearly 80% of face offs, 3 points, played great both end and scored the game winner. That’s what a great leader does.

The NHL rules are brought up, passed and voted on by the league general managers at the annual meetings. Guys who played in the 70s, 80s, 90s. They are then recommended to and cleared by the board of governors.

Most of those general managers played hockey at a level much higher than you. So by your definition they would know much more about hockey and it’s proper current direction than some jabroni who played tier 2 hockey.

Actually, it's the league that's trying to regulate it. 8 games for Kadri.

People on this board are not trying to regulate anything. Guys who have played hockey at a much higher level then you are regulating things.

It’s not that complicated.
Fighting is illegal. They have regulated that it is a 5 minute penalty.

Most body checks are legal.
Other body checks are illegal and are subject to either penalties or discipline based on whether the head was targeted.

I can understand you being upset that people wanted Tom Wilson suspended as he did nothing that is typically disciplined with suspension. You can say that is fans whining for nothing with at least some ground to stand on.

Bur Kadri did. And ita not fans whining that got him suspended. It’s that he broke rules created and directed by people who played hockey at a much higher level than you.

So what if you think you played more hockey than me. I am not the one making the rule nor am I the one ignoring the fact that the hockey world made those distinctive rules.

Foligno came as advertised, he was %81 on the faceoffs.

That’s what I’ve been trying to preach all along : you need that team toughness and physical presence for the skilled guys to play their best. Just one tough guy like Clifford would not do it. The swagger gives you confidence. Matthews now knows he has his back covered by guys like Simmonds, Foligno and Bogosian so he can throw his weight around. He didn’t do that when he had the softest team in the league behind him.

Foligno might have over reacted to the Perry hit on Tavares but in going after Perry he sent the right message : don‘t mess with our skilled guys or you’ll have to pay. Although replay showed it was unintentional he didn’t have the benefit of replays at the heat of the moment and Perry is not a player that has the reputation of being a clean player.

Well I didn’t gloat much after game one.

Tonight was somewhat predictable and the road for the Habs is going to be very tough

I could have certainly done a told you so to those who called for a sweep. But in reality that was really happening a lot in the Toronto Media and the Toronto Sports Network but not really on this board. Most Leafs fans here were justifiably confident, yet cautious and were not making sweep claims either — so there is nothing to call out.
