Seeing this on the news made me shed a few tears. These 2 little children were playing in their front yard when a 16 year old came speeding down the road lost control and hit the children where they died. The first thing that popped up in my mind was what was this 16 year old thinking he was driving a video game . ugh. Looks like his parents let him have the Mercedes to drive. Doesn't a 16 year old need an adult with them to drive ? and if so the parents of the 16 year old boy IMO should be accountable. Those poor parents losing there small children is just devastating. All these young drivers seem to have one thing in common and that's speed. I think teaching young drivers of Canada should implement a few videos as criteria of videos of someone speeding hitting people and freak them out so they realize this is no fucken video game. It's a powerful vehicle that with distracted driving or speeding it could kill others or them self.

Just another little rich kid driving Daddys car in a reckless manner. The fact that he was only 16 years old tells me that he did take an approved driving course to be able to have his G2 license. The course apparently did not do him much good.
By the way because of his age he will not spend one day in prison.

Most North American young drivers would fail an Italian driving test.

Heartbreaking, so sad. They were on their own driveway. The teen wasn't out to kill them, but he needs to take responsibility for this and it may hard for him. The parents?

It's absolutely sickening. It probably should be irrelevant because this could have happened if he were driving any car but the fact a 16 year old was driving a luxury car, you can't help but assume he's some rich spoiled shithead.
As Nathan 88 says, our toothless justice system will just ensure nothing is learned from this tragedy.

You're right....... but when you're speeding in a residential area middle of the day then I think it should be treated as intentional.

He's 16 years old and presumably licensed and insured to drive. I don't think it's fair to make parents responsible unless it can be proven that they either encouraged speeding or set an example that speeding was acceptable.
If he's old enough to legally have the responsibility of driving then he should own the responsibility of his reckless driving. Parents can only control so much.

That may be so, but the kid was probably an angel during his Ontario driving test. Unless the Italian driving test includes how you handle high speed turns...
I remember when I was taking driving lessons, my instructor said, "once you get your license, you can drive any way you want to, but you are responsible for whatever happens."

Very irresponsible...but I don't think they're going to charge him with intentional

My dad actually was the one who told me...unless you have sponsors who will shell out money to buy you a fast car so you can outrun other fast cars...you are not a professional race car driver, you're just a bum in the street driving a fast car...you want to race, test how fast you can go? go on the tracks...

I don't think there's intention...nobody does but getting your license you know damn well what your responsibility is once you're behind the wheel...16 or not.

Every day, I can't believe the amount of bad drivers we have out there. As much as I think cops are over paid, I would have no problem with my tax dollars being reallocated to special road constables giving out serious tickets and impounding cars to bad drivers. I would have them everywhere. All over the highways, streets. Everyday there are accidents clogging up the the major highway because of this shit. 16 year olds killing children in the front yard because they think cars are toys.

Last week I was downtown on a one way street that was under construction so pilons were on the road. The light turned green but a fire truck started coming so I obviously waited. The guy behind me starts honking, then pulls out, passing me knocking down all the pilons and shoots out right in front of the fire truck on Front Street.

It just never stops. Some serious changes are needed to curb this behavior.

The GTA really needs to think of ways to curb this as opposed to a few cameras here and there on traffic lights.

Can parents be held criminally or financially responsible and sued if their kid had a valid license and was insured under their policy?

I am sure the parents have lawyered up pretty quickly. Would have been advised to disown any knowledge of what the son did to limit their liability. Put as much distance between them as possible because then it is on the son when the lawsuit is filed. He would have very little to get, insurance will pay out maximums but who is saying he had any. This plays out plenty of times in injury cases with drunk drivers. Probation, light jail, license suspension just mean they drive in future with no license or insurance.
