Roughned must have fallen off badly though. While a vicious, smug, opportunist, little shit-weasel, he was a decent enough player back in 2015 when we beat them. And in 2016, when we beat them again.
MLB Opening Day. Let's go Blue Jays, let's go! There was a time when this was much anticipated. I guess today not so much.
If today is the way the bullpen performs all year they will be tough to beat...Grichuk batting 8th shows an underrated lineup...great defensive play by Biggio in the 9th to cut down the run at the plate.
I enjoyed watching Vlady bust Aaron Judge's balls at 1st base, that's the sort of attitude you have to take when your playing the Yankees.

What a great start to what should be a great season. Finally I feel we have a solid bullpen that won't blow it. Woohoo.
and Lindor gets 341 million for 10 years starting next year. Non of the money deferred.
So when he's sitting on the bench from the age of 35 to 38, he'll be getting 34 million a year.
I can't see how baseball can keep going like this. Teams with payrolls of 50 million, while other teams have payroll north of 250 million.
They're handing out 300 million dollar contracts like they're giving out candy, mean while people are still losing everything have because of the pandemic.
The line up isn't underrated at all. It's ranked 8th in the majors.
It does sound crazy. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that the owners are all super wealthy and they didn't get that way by being stupid with money. They know their business better than we do.
yes I agree, but I still think they are getting close to pricing themselves out of the market. Also, while most owners are extremely wealthy, I can't see how a league can function with gap that keeps widening between small and big market teams. The Indians have a payroll of 49 million. Next year the guy they just traded will make 33 million on his own. (Lindor)
Giancarlo Stanton makes 30 million a year. He's played 41 baseball games over the past two years. In 2019 he made 26 million played 18 games. He got paid 1.5 million a game. Maybe this is sustainable in NY, but don't know it can be in places like Pittsburgh or Milwaukee.

It is a whacky business model. But the disparity in baseball between the wealth of franchises has been going on forever and will continue to do so without a salary cap. That's why the Yankees have won so much since forever. MLBPA is the strongest union in sports and they are adamantly opposed to any cap. You can't blame the owners for wanting to provide a competitive team for their fans AKA their revenue stream.
You'd like to see the owners show more restraint but the one time they did they lost to COLLUSION charges.
Charlie Finley, the former owner of the A's, was said to be insane when he proposed that no player should get more than a 1 year contract so that each year the market would be flooded with free agents every off season and they'd be competing against each other for contracts. In hindsight, he was correct because the way it is now you only get maybe 6-8 top of the line FAs, so the owners compete for the few plums available which drives the prices up. The top contracts then set the standard for the next tier of players. It's a trickle down effect.
As long as MLB gets the fans to keep paying more and there is no cap the system, though flawed, will probably continue, as screwed up as it is.
