Mr. Personality, AKA Craig Simpson, coined a phrase tonight that is sure to become a phrase that every hockey announcer will adopt into their standard call, like "Are you kidding me?"

He described one of Campbell's saves tonight as an "effort save". Brilliant, just brilliant. Howard Cossell would be jealous.

I hope not. I’d rather they let Andersen and Kerfoot go and use the money to resign Hyman.
Take it to the bank, Andersen is gone. And they'll find a way to move Kerfoot out too. Never was that impressed by Hyman until this season. He does it all, and he'll probably take a hometown discount as well.

I'm with you on that one. He is an integral member of the core. Aside from what he does on the ice, I think that it would hurt the morale of the team if they just let him walk. He is more valuable than Freddie.

Looks like we might have a new number one in net. FA31 def. gone as for ZH11, I hope the Leafs do keep him - he has def. surprised many of us with the style of his play and finally JS19 is playing amazing.

Jack Campbell has 1 year left at $1.6M. Reilly is due in 2022-2023. Kessel is off the books in 2022-2023 so that's another $1.2M available. Will Reilly take $6.2M?

Easily tradable contract. Trade for a 3rd or 4th round pick and use the money for Hyman.
Indeed, especially since actually cash remaining as of July 1, 2021 is $6.15Mm.
Attractive to a team operating near the cap floor.

If Hyman leaves, rest assured AM will leave when he has the chance.

Hyman has always impressed me with his work ethic. This season he's added offense to his great back-checking, he irreplaceable. He's a locker-room captain and with the charity drives he takes on, a credit to the community.

Wayne Simmonds returned to the line up Saturday night. The Leafs have never had an opposition crease disruptor like him, I don't want him to fight.

They have Bryan McGratten wasting time in the minors, bring him up.

We can't let Hyman go, you win with guys like that. Pay dat man his money.
If we can somehow get Nylander's 6.9MM off the books that would help tremendously.
I'd let Rielly go I think. Too much of a detriment defensively and his offense doesn't make up for it. We have Sandin waiting in the wings to be that puck moving d man.
I'd definitely like to see the Leafs add some physicality at the deadline, one on D and one on FW. Every game we get outhit at least 2 to 1.
And call up Robertson for heavens sake.

Would anyone consider Patrick Kane over-rated?
Ok I know the Magic Mic does.

I did a comparable of Kane's and Marner's first 3 years or so of their respective careers and they were very similar.
This year they've both played 32 games and both scored 12 goals with Kane having 2 more assists.
Kane btw is listed at 5'10" and 177 lbs. Marner is 6' and 175 lbs.
Kane signed his contract in 2015/16 with a cap hit of 10.5 million at 14.68% of the cap
Marner signed in 2019/20 with a cap hit of 10.903 million at 13.27% of the cap so one could say Marner signed for less than Kane.
They are currently sitting 3 and 4 in scoring behind only McD and Draisaltl.
Marner also plays the PK. McD and Kane don't.

Never?
Immediately to mind, Dave Andreychuk, James van Riemsdyk, Gary Roberts.

Brian McGratten is a (retired) free agent, he hasn't played since the 2016-17 season (Elite Ice Hockey League), 2014-15 in the NHL.

I think when Auston Matthews has UFA status he goes...

Good to know I'm not the only one that thinks this guy is over-rated. I've never seen a defensemen scramble as much as he does in his own zone. And the fact that he can't shoot for beans yet still mans the point on the PP frustrates the fuck out of me. The only good thing about him is that's he's dating a pretty decent chick.

Both Matthews and Nylander are UFAs in 2024-2025. Who do you think stays?

I think Leafs give Matthews near $13-15M/yr and he stays. In 2024-2025 Nylander is UFA and he's gone.

I wouldn't count out that Nylander is gone before then...I'd give Matthews top dollar but that still may not be enough, he might just want to go live somewhere else...

Nylander will leave as fans continue to complain about him.

Matthews will stay if the Leafs are contenders and they pay him McDavid type money or better
