That should be the general rule for all goaliesJack Campbell should stay in the net and not play the puck, he would have another SO, but he's 5-0 this season.

Goalies roaming around and controlling the puck as a third defender was becoming the norm. That's why they have that quadrilateral shape now behind the net to limit the area that goalies can handle the puck. That should be the general rule for all goalies. Just stay in your area, but I get the need to move out and about. Still the 5-0 is impressive with that save percentage as well.
Leafs have the same problem game after game. They have a significant edge in play and territory, but can't score. They keep the puck in the opposing team's zone, but their chances are pedestrian and easily thwarted. They are pesky.
Personally I dislike that rule change.Goalies roaming around and controlling the puck as a third defender was becoming the norm. That's why they have that quadrilateral shape now behind the net to limit the area that goalies can handle the puck.
Well put @The Oracle - been a fan a long time and I fear what may happen in the playoffs. I just hope they can at least win a playoff round.Personally I dislike that rule change.
If a goalie is a good puck handler a la Brodeur why institute rules against that?
Every time a goalie goes roaming it adds to the excitement of the game.
I know as a Sens fan it did for me last night,lol..........
As an outsider my feeling on watching the Leafs this year is that their biggest problem is that there isn't too many nights where you come away from watching them play where you say to yourself they definitely had the better goaltending that night.
Their forwards are highly skilled and plentiful. A treat to watch really. But if you watch the hit tallies at the end of the game they are usually getting bettered 2 to 1 or worse.
In summation they are a good team but they don't play playoff style hockey. I think there are to be a lot of disappointed fans on here in the upcoming months unless they van make a few moves at the deadline.
I think it was done in an attempt to increase scoring. As I said, guys like Brodeur were a 3rd defenseman and helped the defending team control the puck.Personally I dislike that rule change.

Yes, I noticed AM taking guys out last night as well. I was wondering if it was really in his job description to do that.I think that Matthews has upped his level of physical play this year. He doesn't lay on the big hits, but he is not afraid lay on a shoulder or two to knock an opponent off the puck. A bit like a Brian Trottier. Trottier was reallly strong.
Yeah, but hits!!I don't know where this Leafs have a monopoly on skill comes from. Plenty of teams have plenty of skill. Leafs were playing Vesey and Thornton in their top 6 to start the season. That is not deep. Vesey was put on waivers tells you all you need to know and Thornton cannot play more than 15 min per game since he's fricken 42 years old. Do people forget Edmonton has McD and Draisaltl. Have you looked at the Jets top 6 of Scheifele Wheeler Statsny Connor Dubois and Ehlers. That is one scary looking top 6. Plus they have the best goalie in the league. Even outside of North Division plenty of skill. Boston has the super line Bergeron, Pasty, and the Rat and they're still 4th in their Division. Did we forget about Crosby and Malkin? TB has Point, Kucherov, Stamkos, Hedman, and a superstar goalie.
Holy shit! Draisaitl and McD are fucking dangerous! It's like playing ice footsie with 2 mean-ass, hungry jaguars!4-3 Leafs
Another exciting game tonight, although the final outcome was never in doubt from the opening faceoff.
Be careful of what you wish for. It has happened time and again that the team that dominated in the regular season would lose to the same team in the playoffs. Back in the eighties the Leafs and the Black Hawks exchanged roles in that pattern. In the Sundin/Tucker/Domi era in the nineties the Sens dominated the Leafs in the regular season but were eliminated by the Leafs in consecutive playoffs. I wouldn’t count the Oilers out if they meet the Leafs in the playoffs. Either the Jets or the Oilers vs the Leafs, it’ll be one heck of a series though. This was a great game. I hope Leafs meet the Oilers in the playoffs. Great speed and skill on display. Great hockey.
And Jack Campbell is even better.Leafs wins!!! Overtime 4-3 Matthews! What a game! What a come back! Jake Campbell is a keeper.
