Like I said you're not that old if you honestly believe it.Statistically the worst ever, nothing else to go on, special mention to Rick dipietro.

I think those contracts will be rare also especially on 3rd contracts, 2nd maybe not so much. More may do like Matthew's and try to cash in more often. Imagine his next contract.I said Dipietro earlier. Because of that contract, no team can sign for more than 8 years.
He has the worst stats of any forward picked, hard to compare defenceman but most have been forwards. Nodody ever picks defensive forwards so he has to be the worst. Fewest games played, lowest points per game, well under .5, he's even brutal in the khl.350 games
62 goals
74 assists
That's not what you want from a 1st overall pick, but not the worst ever.
Compared to every other forward drafted 1st overall in the NHL draft, he's not the worst statistically.I think those contracts will be rare also

I went through the list and only broten, wickenheiser and Stefan stood out and his stats were worse than theirs. Hard to argue about 2 guys who never played in the league, I didn't notice any on the list I saw but I didn't check every player.Compared to every other forward drafted 1st overall in the NHL draft, he's not the worst statistically.
Two forwards drafted 1st overall never played one game in the league.
Patrick Stefan scored 2 more goals, in 105 more games, for comparison purposes.
Edmonton would like a do-over, certainly.
They'd probably select the player drafted 5th or 11th that year.

The fact he was French made it even more enticing to Ottawa. Daigle even said he only played hockey mostly because he was good at it. He didn't have that extra desire that every player needs regardless of skill level.Claude Gauthier 1964
Andre Veillieux 1965
A defenseman was drafted 1st overall in 1967, Rick Pagnutti (LAK), he never played in the NHL either.
There have been a number of situations through the years where teams would like to go back, and take the guy who went 2nd (or 3rd).
Going 2nd to Hartford, behind Daigle? Chris Pronger. 3rd Chris Gratton, 4th, Paul Kariya, 5th, Rob Neidermayer.
One of my best friends is an Ottawa guy, huge Senators fan. He really wanted them to take Kariya.
Oy, the Senators wiffed.
Very early, too early to confirm, but I think the Ottawa Senators may have gotten the best player in this year's draft, with Tim Stutzle, at 3.
Burkey wasn't that stupidCompared to every other forward drafted 1st overall in the NHL draft, he's not the worst statistically.

At the time, if Ottawa selected anybody but Daigle they would have been called idiots for it.Claude Gauthier 1964

They even turned down a trade offer of Peter Forsberg from the Nordiques for the pick.At the time, if Ottawa selected anybody but Daigle they would have been called idiots for it.
Isn't that how you evaluate players? Your infamous all small players suck.Yes, Mike Bossy. However, the knock against him was weak defensively and fragile.
$12 million over 5 years for a regular 20+ goal scorer?I am pretty sure that Alexandre Daigle would be near the top of the list for worst NHL contracts.
That's not the worst contract in the history of the Maple Leafs.Surprised noone ever mentioned Toronto Maple Leafs disaster with David Clarkson
That had to be the worst contract in history of league
Not quiteColumbus took all of it.
In exchange, the Maple Leafs took Nathan Horton's deal.
The Clarkson deal was insured, Horton's not.
The logic behind the trade was that Toronto could get DC's salary off the cap, while Toronto knew they would be stashing NH's deal on LTIR. Blue Jackets got out from a salary producing nothing, and hoped to get some value out of Clarkson's. Unfortunately, shortly after the trade, Clarkson was injured, spent balance of his deal on LTIR as well.
But, insurance paid most of it. The trade worked for both clubs.
Columbus got out from a onerous zero value deal, Toronto got $5.25Mm in cap relief.
Who was worse seriously? That's not the worst contract in the history of the Maple Leafs.
Yeah some trades are laughableIsn't that how you evaluate players? Your infamous all small players suck.
Well, you stretched a long way to get there. Not quite
Columbus took Clarkson
Then Clarkson went to Vegas
And Vegas returned Clarkson to Toronto (July 23 2019) for Garrett Sparks
So they DID end up paying him off in the end
Two time Stanley Cup champion Phil Kessel?Who was worse seriously?
Yeah Kessel was bad contract but he was an ok (overrated) player
Oh I agree it helped them pay more for other players (the link goes into details why) but at end of the dayWell, you stretched a long way to get there.
When Toronto reacquired Clarkson, it helped them with salary cap issues.
