So, what do you think? Be careful or a huge hook will drop from the sky and grab you by the neck and deposit your body in Lake Ontario.
If someone makes a generalization of a group of people, whether positive or negative, based on nothing more than their race, that is the definition of a racist/racial stereotypical comment. It's gotten to the point now where some people think even saying something nice about a race/ethnic group is a racist stereotype.
Not necessarily. If someone makes a generalization of a group of people, whether positive or negative, based on nothing more than their race, that is the definition of a racist/racial stereotypical comment.
Why do you think that it isn't?
I am definitely not a snowflake when it comes to jokes about ethnicities especially when, as you mentioned, it has a good delivery. I think I posted a Newfie joke in the thread. Not necessarily.
Every nation has it's quirks. If a comedian finds it and expoits it - he's not a racist or nazi.
When a Canadian bumps into another person, they apologize. What the EF is that, eh? Nothing wrong with making jokes about it.
Nations, races, ethnicities - all have some traits and quirks that can be made fun of. It takes intelligence to even distinguish what those are. The key is delivery. It has to be smart and neutral somewhat.
George Carlin, just as an example, was making fun of just about anything and was a master at it. Lighten up and have some laughs. Life is too short to be uptight all the time.
In his early years he was as funny a comedian as anyone on TV. However, in the last few years the majority of his jokes contained the worst expletive content I have ever heard without any humour at all. He has run out of any original humour. In other words, HE SUCKS.Canadian Journal of Communication
