Hardly...you’re acting like Patrick Roy, getting schooled and quitting...I’ll put my knowledge of hockey up against yours any day.
You've already demonstated your knowledge of hockey, and it was shown to be sorely lacking. You are the one who is getting emotional and letting Roy's personality flaws get in the way of his incredible talent and fierce intensity which made him top 3 all time.

I didn't say is he was shit, in fact I praised him for his accomplishments so don't make things up.

I said quitting on your team in the manner he did was a jackass move.

You're another one that I wouldn't take a backseat too...sorry I had to school you.

He didn't quit on his team though.

He was getting shelled in that game against Detroit and wanted out. Tremblay because they had a prior history to embarrass him as much as he could.

No other coach would have left him in that game to give up 9 goals. Christ Keenan would have had him out there after the first 3.

As was mentioned on the Fan590 the other day by a French language reporter who was covering the story at the time. Roy met with Rejean Houle the next day and expressed an interest in staying in Montreal and working things out but Houle had already decided to move him.

Roy's brief comments to Ronald Corey were in the heat of the moment and cannot be misconstrued as giving up on his team. Clearly in light of what we know now he reconsidered later on once the emotions of the moment were gone.

It sounds to me that Les Canadiens quit on Patrick.........

I've seen your mom fight...

Gene LeBell as the referee. One of the all time characters in martial arts and Hollywood.

And one of the toughest men of ever lived.

He participated in what was the first commercial MMA match. Judoka vs Boxer match in 1963. Despite all kind of silly rules meant to limit LeBell's Judo game he choked his opponent unconscious in the match.

For me, telling the president that this is his last game is quitting...

Vince Carter was a quitter, sitting on the bench laughing with a towel on his head - classless. .... Roy just got angry with good reason and announced he'd had enough, then he left........... and you are still out to lunch on Carbonneau and Gainey. Backseat? You're not even in the same vehicle!. St. Louis won the cup 2 years ago with defence. The Habs won their last 2 cups with defence. New Jersey won a few with defence. The Laffs are still losing because of a lack of defence.

I see I'm going to have to school you again...

Bob Gainey-Career season highs, 23 goals 47 points, career totals, 239 goals 501 points...those are not Hall of Fame numbers.
Guy Carbonneau-Career season highs, 26 goals 57 points, career totals, 260 goals 663 points...those are not Hall of Fame numbers.

Is New Jersey putting their 3rd line players in the Hall of Fame?

Vince Carter was classless but Patrick Roy wasn't?

I don't know if Tremblay was trying to embarrass him or just didn't care about his feelings...I think it was more like Mario Tremblay was an inexperienced average coach, he never coached at any level before his Montreal gig and after 159 games was never a head coach again.

Still, Roy could have done it differently.

Washington and TB won 2 of the last 3 cups when both teams lead the league in goals so it's not just defense. They had offense. St Louis didn't win just because of defense. Binnington was also spectacular that year. Could have easily won the Conn Smythe. They also had good offensive players. They were in last place before Binnington got there so their defense sucked. You could say their defense was Binnington.

There are also defensive teams who don't win the cup.
Edmonton was a dynasty because of their offense. Not because of their defense.

I just did a quick tally in my head of Gainey's career +/- and its like +195. Carbonneau is +188

That playing against the best lines of every team they faced. Carbonneau was also amongst the best faceoff men in the league.

Not to mention they were part of one of the best shutdown PK's in the league year after year.

The rings they have between them is no coincidence.

They also had Robinson, Lapointe, Savard, and Dryden.

The guy who excels at killing penalties and shutting down the other team's superstars is also worthy of being in the Hall of Fame. It isn't all about scoring goals.

Larry Robinson, Scott Stevens...they shut them down and are now Hall of Famers.

Wonder why Kris Draper, Doug Jarvis and Bobby Holik aren't?

Plus/minus yes...so when is Brent Sutter getting in the Hall of Fame?

The four Stanley Cups Montreal won with those great teams from 1976-1979...go ahead, check the plus/minus...

+160 or so........Great but not as good as Gainey or Carbo is it?
He outscored both of them...

Where does Gainey rank among other Montreal players on those teams with plus/minus...Rejean Houle, Doug Risebrough, Murray Wilson, Doug Jarvis...when do they get in the Hall of fame?

Bob Gainey is the most overrated athlete in the history of professional sports!
