I guess that famous Russian coach was a fool for saying Gainey was the best player he'd seen....LOL. Both Gainey and Carbonneau were tireless defenders who left it all on the ice. Any team would have coveted them, including the Laffs.
That's what makes him overrated...Viktor Tikhonov praises him and it goes undisputed...Scotty Bowman coached Gainey in Montreal, if Bowman wasn't the coach of the Canadian team Gainey probably wouldn't have been on the team.

People bring that up...c'mon, Bob Gainey-"Best player in the World", hardly...I don't think that Russian coach seen the players on that 1976 Canada Cup play often, Bobby Orr, Bobby Hull, Denis Potvin, Gil Perreault, Darryl Sittler, Guy Lafleur, Marcel Dionne, etc etc the list goes on...they didn't name an award for those guys to win.

Tireless workers shouldn't get you in the Hall of Fame, 3rd liners were what they were...those guys were never even in the top 4-5 players on their teams.

Telling the owner of the team during the game that this was his last game...ya, I'd call that a jackass move!
I don't know. Is deliberately publicly humiliating the team president worse than deliberately publicly humiliating the team's star player? I think Roy did what many others are too chicken shit to do.

Because after all, what does Scotty Bowman know about hockey talent, right? He's only the coach with the most wins in NHL history. I suppose he got there by making sure charity cases like Gainey had lots of minutes every game.

Your right, I guess more goalies should do that when they get yanked, quit on the spot.

I wonder which players Scotty Bowman owes the most to his success...Guy Lafleur, Mario Lemieux, Steve Yzerman or Kris Draper, Bob Errey, Bob Gainey.

Did Scotty Bowman, or anybody else for that matter, call Bob Gainey “The best hockey player in the world?”

You should do just a tad more research on the subject history. There was a long simmering feud going on between Tremblay and Roy, with Tremblay - Roy's former roomie on the road during playing days together when they also did not get along - treating him like a dick many many times publicly before the actual breakdown. As coach, he actually once deliberately shot a puck at Roy's throat during a practice and they almost duked it out right there on the ice. Roy had gone to the GM on multiple occasions to address the issue with no action taken because Tremblay was one of the old guard in MTL. It wasn't a spur of the moment, snap decision on Roy's part.

That’s no excuse...you still don’t quit on the team mid-game...lots of players and coaches, in fact, tons and tons don’t get along.

You are exaggerating, they played one season together and even though I found no evidence that Roy went to the GM to complain about Mario Tremblay, if he did what’s that say about Roy...

Roy was probably the best of all time. But at the same time he is a complete mother fucker. I met him twice. A prick is how to best describe his personality.

I agree, he won a lot of awards and some championships, you can’t say he was shit...

He quit on the team in the middle of the game...awards he has, but he’s been a jerk a few times.

He quit coaching Colorado in a huff...it’s all about him.

He pulled himself off the 2002 Olympic team in a huff...again, it’s all about him.

Also arrested for domestic violence...

No, Roy did what many others wouldn’t do because they aren’t as selfish as Patrick Roy.

Roy embarrassed himself...

Jeff Blair said on the Fan yesterday that Serge Savard almost had a deal in place to deal Roy to Quebec for Owen Nolan and Stephane Fiset but it fell through.

So suffice it to say that Roy was deemed expendable before the incident in question.

With all his talent and accolades in MTL his character wasn't appreciated by management.

When he got dealt it was mentioned on the show that when Roy met with Rejean Houle he was actually willing to work things out but Houle told him he was going to be moved.

It was also mentioned that the franchise has never been the same since. If you think about that it's true.

It would have been tough to trade him to the Quebec Nordiques.

Obviously if Savard wanted to do it, it couldn't have been that tough for him.

He probably knew that Aubut was on his way out of town.........
When I think about it, they had already moved to Colorado in the summer...

Hardly...you’re acting like Patrick Roy, getting schooled and quitting...I’ll put my knowledge of hockey up against yours any day.
My mom can beat up your mom, y'know. 🙄 True story.
