On the slopes of Mount Parnassus, Greece
He outscored both of them...

Where does Gainey rank among other Montreal players on those teams with plus/minus...Rejean Houle, Doug Risebrough, Murray Wilson, Doug Jarvis...when do they get in the Hall of fame?

Bob Gainey is the most overrated athlete in the history of professional sports!
You sir have Hab Derangement Syndrome and should seek treatment as so as possible.

All hail Bob Gainey and Carbo!!

It's not my fault that I have uncovered the Montreal Canadiens as a cheating, dishonest, crybaby, whiner organization...

Go to insults when you are unable to talk with intelligence...that's you, nice job.

If you don't know that much you shouldn't be talking!

Good article. Whole heartedly agree.

Regarding the point about guys like Carbo, Duff, Cheevers getting in because they were members of dynasties, I think with so much free agency and cap space issues etc. it is much, much harder to build and maintain a dynasty. Everybody on a Cup winner wants a raise which causes cap issues. Tough choices have to be made. No team could maintain a roster with a Gretz, Messier, Kurri, Anderson, Coffey, Fuhr, Lowe and stay under the cap. Or Trottier, Bossy, Potvin, Gillies, Goring, Billy Smith, Bourne, Nystrom.

As such, the issue of fringe guys like Duff or Carbo getting in by being on dynasties should not be going on for much longer.

Clark Gillies is another one I'd add to the Gainey and Carbonneau list.

I do not see Gillies, Gainey or Carbo in the hall of fame... But I will see Patrice Bergeron. He is as good and important defensily as any of those but can also scores! He should go in first year eligibility.

No Dynasty's like in the past but I would consider mini dynasty's. There was a time within a 9 year span 4 teams passed around the cup. Chicago, LA, Boston, and Pittsburgh. Within that 9 year period Chicago and Pitt won it 3 times each. I would consider these 2 teams a Dynasty of sorts. Probably more impressive now since there are more teams in the league and there's a salary cap.

I agree...how about the Selke trophy, do you think it's important to have a 'Best Defensive Forward" award?

I am first a soccer fan (and ex player). Where all kinds of awards are also given... Strangest one being "Comeback Player of the year". These awards are for the show. And yes I think there are too many of them. I would take out the best defensive forward award. The most valuable player is enough. That said I would probably take out the Lady Bing first. Players who win it seem embarrassed by it :ROFLMAO:

Also different standards then and now. They used wooden sticks, wore steel blades and goalies with no masks for crying out loud. If you play goal without a mask today that alone should get you in the Hall. Majority of those players couldn't even make the AHL today.

Allan Stanley was a 3 time league all star, which is 3 more times than both Gainey and Carbonneau were.

Bob Pulford out scored both Gainey and Carbonneau...George Armstrong had both more goals and assists than both Gainey and Carbonneau.

Pulford and Armstrong were both known as defensive players but they didn’t have the Selke Trophy back then...they only came up with that after the Montreal Canadiens suckholed the NHL into naming an award that Bob Gainey could win.
